Tags for pets
Animal tags for 2007 are now available at the Emporia Police Department. Animals (cats or dogs) kept in the city limits of Emporia are to have an animal tag. The cost is $10 for male and female animals or $3 for neutered and spayed animals. Owners will need to bring proof of current rabies vaccination at time of purchase.
Animal tags can be purchased during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the police department from clerical personnel. Animals must be at least 6 months old.
A proposal for raising fees for pet registration is currently before the city commission. If approved, and after published in the newspaper, it’s anticipated the new fees for animal tags will go into effect shortly after the first of the year. The new fees for animal tags will be: neutered/spayed pets: $10; non-sterilized pets: $20.
