Santa Claus will visit a northwest neighborhood from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday to collect toys for children.
Neighbors in the De Lane, Diane, Darlene and Hillcrest Drive area again have decorated their houses for Christmas and again have turned the festive mood into a serious project to help youngsters.
The tradition began 23 years ago, when then-residents Kent Schnakenberg and Steve Anderson decorated their homes and handed out suckers to children in passing cars. The following year, other neighbors embraced the concept, lit up their homes, and turned the resulting project into a major source of toys for needy children.
Drivers who tour the area are welcome to drop off toys on Friday and Saturday. Santa will be stationed at 2314 De Lane Drive.
Toys this year will be donated to SOS and to the Salvation Army for distribution.
