Flinthills defeats Chase Co.

Saturday, December 9, 2006

Friday night’s game ended in defeat for the Chase County Lady Bulldogs, who lost by 39 points to the Flinthills Lady Mustangs, 59-20.

It’s been a tough year for the Lady Bulldogs with only one returning starter. After Friday night’s game, they are 0-2 in league play.

“We had too many turnovers,” Chase County coach Toby Baker said, “but our defense was good. They didn’t get too many open looks at the basket.”

The Mustangs, who entered halftime up by a score of 38-11, never backed down. Helping them maintain their lead was Lacey Breech, who scored 17 points, and Caley Onek, who had 15 points. Erin Dragoo scored 16 points and had 5 steals for the Mustangs.

“It was a much better effort on our part in terms of rebounding. We just made better decisions tonight than we’ve been making in the last three games,” Baker said. “The kids really played together.”

Olpe girls 62, Waverly 43

The Olpe Lady Eagles got Friday night’s victory against Waverly off to a good start. Thanks to a quick start, the Eagles ended the first half leading 40-14.

“We played a good first half,” coach Jesse Nelson said, “We were ready to play the first quarter and I think we played well.”

Coming out of the half with a 26-point lead, Nelson had the opportunity to play some of his younger players. One of those was sophomore Nichole Wendling, who scored three points for the Lady Eagles.

Leading the Eagles on the scoreboard was Kayla Krueger with 17 points. However, Waverly’s Megan Steward, who finished with 16 points, did not fall far behind Krueger’s point total.

Lyndon handed Marais des Cygnes Valley a 71-37 loss Friday night. Lyndon started out strong, scoring 17 points in the first quarter and never let up.

By the end of the first half, MdCV was already trailing Lyndon by 20 points, but Lyndon carried its strength into the final half.

Leading Lyndon in scoring was Kara Banzhaf, who had 18 points. Rachel Clark led MdCV in total points with 10.

The Lady Railers built a 19-13 advantage at half but fell behind 24-23 after scoring just four points in the third quarter. Brockmeier scored 12 of her team’s 16 points in the fourth quarter, including six free throws.

Kristin Kleinschmidt added 10 for Herington. Amy Lee and Sarah Boline contributed double figures with 10 points apiece for Northern Heights.
