Morris County
Three Council Grove High School students recently were chosen to participate in honors voice and instrumental groups at a district concert at Manhattan High School last week.
Josh Jimerson and Chynna Walters were chosen for the District Honor Choice and flutist Victoria Davidson was chosen for the District Honor Band.
The Council Grove Life Center is sponsoring a bus trip to the Texas Bowl at Houston later this month. The Kansas State Wildcats will play Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Dec. 28 in Reliant Stadium.
The group will leave Council Grove the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 26. They will attend the K-State pep rally and Texas Bowl parade on Wednesday, and participate in “Spirit Zone” activities outside the stadium prior to the bowl game on Dec. 28.

The annual Christmas dinner for the Community Thrift Store will be at noon on Monday in the First Congregational Church. The lunch is open to all board members, workers, ministers and their families.
The 13th annual Flint Hills Community Band Christmas Celebration will be at 7 p.m. on Sunday in the First Baptist Church.
In addition to the band performance, song requests will be taken and the audience will be able to sing along.
Refreshments will be served in Fellowship Hall after the performance.
Donations will be accepted to benefit Morris County Care and Share, which provides help to fill emergency food and clothing needs.
Chase County
The Golden Living Center of Chase County will have its annual open house and Christmas lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. tonight. The event is open to the public.
The annual Community Christmas Dinner at Matfield Green will begin at 6 p.m. Those who attend are asked to bring a side dish or dessert and table service. Turkey, ham and hot cider will be furnished. Christmas carols will be sung during the evening.
Markel R. Porter will present an evening of opera and seasonal music at the Hitchin’ Post in Matfield Green. He is the brother of Hitchin’ Post owner.
A prime rib dinner will be served. People who want to order from the grill menu will need to place orders early. The grill will close at 7:30 p.m., when the concert begins.

Nominations for the Holiday Decorating Contest need to be turned in to the Chase County Chase of Commerce. Judging will be held on Dec. 17.
