2007 animal tags available

Animal tags for 2007 are now available at the Emporia Police Department. Cats and dogs kept in the city limits of Emporia are required to have animal tags. The cost is $10 for male and female animals or $3 for spayed or neutered animals. Owners will need to bring proof of current rabies vaccination at time of purchase.

Animal tags can be purchased from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Emporia Police Department from clerical personnel. Animals must be at least 6 months old.

A proposal for raising fees for pet registration is before the city commission. If approved and after published in the newspaper, it’s anticipated the new fees for animal tags will go into effect shortly after the first of the year. The proposed rates are $10 for spayed and neutered pets and $20 for non-sterilized pets.

“Santa Paws” is coming to town

The Humane Society of the Flint Hills is holding its annual “Santa Paws” event Sunday, giving pets the chance to have their picture taken with Santa Claus.

The pictures will be taken between 12:30 and 3:30 p.m. at L&L Pets and are $5. Children and owners may appear with the pets in the picture.
