For the Lebo Lady Wolves, Tuesday night’s home game resulted in a 67-48 victory against the Marais des Cygnes Valley Lady Trojans.
Leading the scoring for the Lady Wolves was Nickole Presley with 23 points. Presley, who nearly fouled out of the game, led Lebo throughout the first and second quarter.
Presley was outscored only by the Lady Trojans’ Rachel Clark, who led her team with 26 points.
With a four-point lead at the break, the Lady Wolves continued to outscore the Lady Trojans in the remaining half by a total of 19 points.
Flinthills girls 61,
Hartford 38
Tuesday night’s game ended well for the Flinthills Lady Mustangs as they defeated the Hartford Lady Jaguars in Rosalia. By the end of the first half, Flinthills had taken the lead by 11 points, remaining ahead for the rest of the second half.
“We had a sluggish start, but got going to begin the second quarter,” Flinthills coach Mark Womacks said. “Conditioning-wise I think we are still trying to recover from three snow days last week. We will get caught up this week with three more games to go.”
The Lady Jaguars put up a good fight. Senior Stephanie Dall led the scoring for Hartford by chipping in 11 points. The Lady Jaguars also sank four 3-pointers.
However, this wasn’t enough to pull the Lady Jaguars to victory.
“They were really fast up and down the floor, and we had a hard time keeping up with them,” Hartford coach Lance Bolen said. “They beat us on transition quite often.”
Flinthills’ Lacey Breech led the way with a game-high 20 points. She made 10-of-13 shots and added 10 steals, which tied a school record for steals in a game. She also contributed five assists.
Following Breech were teammates Erin Dragoo with 17 points and Caley Onek with 14 points.
Hope girls 53,
Northern Heights 32
Falling to defeat in their first game of the season, the Northern Heights Lady Wildcats lost to Hope during the Herington Tournament.
“You could tell it was the first game of the year,” Northern Heights coach Tim Riemann said. “We have a lot to work on and a lot of areas to improve in.”
The ladies from Hope played tough. Hope’s leading scorers each chipped in 12 points for the game.
“I was pleased with our effort,” Riemann said. “We just have to be more aggressive and take care of the basketball.”
Lyndon girls 55,
Chase County 21
The Lyndon girls used a solid defensive effort to run away from Chase County in the 34-point victory.
The Lady Tigers defense held the Lady Bulldogs to just nine points through three quarters of play. Meanwhile, Lyndon’s offense took over in the third, scoring 23 points in the frame, led by Krista Banzhaf’s eight and Ashley Persinger’s seven.
Banzhaf paced all scorers with 16 points. Parsinger was right behind with 11, while Stephanie Goetz contributed double figures with 10.
Chase County had four different girls finish with four points.
Centre girls 56,
Herington 44
Herington coach Jayson Emig was disappointed but not discouraged with his team’s 12-point loss to Centre on Tuesday.
“I think our youth kind of hurt us tonight,” Emig said, “but we played pretty well as a team.”
Herington jumped out to a 14-11 first quarter advantage and trailed by just one at halftime.
Centre responded with a 13-6 third-quarter run, helped by the fact that Herington leading scorer Kristen Kleinschmidt had to sit with four fouls.
“Not having experience in that third quarter,” Emig said, “is what killed us.”
Kleinschmidt had a team-high 15 points for the Lady Railers. Crysta Brockmeier added 13, while Kaleigh Schneider contributed nine.
