The Lebo boys stormed into the second round of the Osage City Basketball Tournament with an 80-17 victory over Mission Valley on Saturday.
Adam Laflin and Aaron Gillespie each poured in 19 points for Lebo as the Wolves cruised to the dominating win.
Lebo scored 24 and 25 points respectively in the first and second quarters to put the game away early. Taylor Barker also scored in double figures with 13 points, while Bryant Linsey and Cameron Smith had 8 and 7 points, respectively.
Meanwhile, thanks to three first-quarter 3-pointers from Aaron Hammond off the bench, the Olpe Eagles jumped out to a 23-7 lead after one period over Pomona. While Pomona hung around in the second quarter by scoring 15 points, Pomona was still down 40-22 at the half.
Seth Pargman paced the Eagles with 18 points, as 12 Eagles scored in the game. Cale Worthington led Pomona with 15 points.
Lebo will match up with Olpe in the second round of the tournament at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at Lebo. Mission Valley will meet Pomona at 5:30 on Thursday in Lebo.
On the other side of the bracket, despite 26 points from Evan Faulkner, Osage City was not able to overcome a more balanced scoring attack from Hartford, as the Jaguars held Osage City at bay, 60-51.
Hartford led 20-16 at halftime, with Faulkner scoring 10 of Osage City’s 16 points.
Osage City actually hung close with Hartford in the third quarter, as Hartford only outscored Osage City 19-18 in the period,
Hartford got its scoring from across the board, as eight players scored for the Jaguars with three players in double figures.
In advancing to the championship bracket, White City came back from a 14-5 first-quarter deficit by outscoring Waverly 20-7 in the second quarter on its way to a 50-47 victory Saturday.
Only four players scored for White City, but that was enough to beat back Waverly, which put up a late rally in the fourth quarter by outscoring White City 17-10, but still fell just short.
Heath Redding led Waverly in scoring with 16 points, while Dentin Chapman added 12 points.
Hartford will meet White City in the second round of the tournament at 8:30 tonight in Osage City. Osage City will play Waverly at 5:30 tonight in Osage City in the consolation bracket.
Wichita Home 70,
Flinthills 65
Wichita Home shot 72 percent from the field to clip Flinthills 70-65 on Saturday in the first round of the Flinthills round robin tournament.
The Warriors were 23-of-32 from the field, and even though Flinthills made one more shot (24-of-59) than Wichita Home, the difference came in three-point shooting, as the Warriors made 6 of 9 three-point shots while Flinthills managed just one three-point make in 16 tries.
Jeremy Jackson and Kiel Reimann each scored 13 points to lead Flinthills, while Kyle Reed scored a game-high 18 points for Wichita Home.
Madison got 14 points from Jordan Stout and 12 points from Jacob Stewart as the Bulldogs handled Hamilton 66-26. The duo led 10 Madison players that scored during the game.
“Balanced scoring and depth allowed us to over come not practicing for three days due to the weather,” Madison coach Mike Pitko said.
Madison and Flinthills will play on Thursday in the second round.
Marais des Cygnes Valley 68, Southern Coffey Co. 51
Marais des Cygnes Valley outscored Southern Coffey County 43-21 in the second half to turn a 27-25 halftime deficit into a 68-51 victory Saturday.
Marais des Cygnes Valley managed to finally take the lead by the end of the third quarter by outscoring Southern Coffey County 17-14 in the period, but Marais des Cygnes Valley put the game away for good by outscoring Southern Coffey County 26-10 in the fourth period.
“The boys played well in the second half,” Marais des Cygnes Valley coach Thad Thurston said. “I thought we wore them out a little bit in the late third and early fourth quarters.”
Brandon Litch led the way in scoring with 15 points for Marais des Cygnes Valley.
