County's master fire plan to be discussed

Monday, December 4, 2006

Lyon County’s master fire district plan and a prescription drug program are both up for discussion during Wednesday’s Lyon County commission meeting.

Commission chairman Marshall Miller said KSU’s Forestry Service offers a planning program for county fire districts. Lyon County’s plan will be reviewed and suggestions could be made based upon that review.

“It’s just kind of a courtesy thing that they do,” Miller said. “This will probably be a step forward to hopefully save some money and some manpower.”

Also up for discussion is a drug plan called NACO (National Association of Counties). NACO has a prescription drug program they offer for people who don’t have prescription drug coverage. According to NACO’s web site, the discount card is valid for prescriptions not covered by insurance and each prescription has a different discount with an average savings is 20 percent.

“It’s a national program that anybody can apply for,” Miller said. “Any Lyon County citizen.”

Also on Wednesday’s agenda:

• Bob Agler and Christie Miller, of A&M Consultants will discuss the end of the month financial report and discuss the 2006 republished budget line items.

• Chip Woods, county engineer will discuss the recycle trailer report and discuss suggested future Kansas Department of Transportation projects.
