Logan Avenue Elementary school has received a Teaching Tolerance grant from the Southern Poverty Law Center for its Raising Culturally Diverse Kids program.
The grant, for $1,483, will be used by the school’s counselor, Carla Fessler, to increase her knowledge of intercultural issues. Fessler will then help parents understand diversity and parenting issues.
“This is the kind of program we hope to see implemented across the country,” said Rhonda Thompson, grants administrator for Teaching Tolerance. “We believe tolerance education can make a difference in the classroom and in the community.”
