Flea market booths going fast

Monday, August 28, 2006

Booths are still available for the Great American Flea Market, but if you want a booth, call soon, because they are going fast.

Mary Helmer, of Emporia Main Street, said the flea market has grown each year. There were more than 120 booths last year.

“We’re on track to have a really good year this year too,” Helmer said. “It’s all flea market all the time right now!”

At the flea market, anything goes. And this year, the fifth year, is looking better than ever. The Great American Flea Market will run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 9 up and down Commercial Street Helmer said it’s a flea market so shoppers can expect to see just about anything.

There will be something for everybody from collectibles and a special block for antiques. There also will be quilts, knives, antique furniture, glass etching, golf supplies and equipment, wind chimes, glassware, tools, movies, scrapbooking supplies, jewelry, oriental dresses and much, much more to tickle anybody’s fancy.

For hungry shoppers, there will be countless food vendors available with everything from barbecue, Mexican food, funnel cakes, hot dogs and snow cones.

“It’ll be a lot of food,” Helmer said.

There also will be a Chalk Fest sponsored by the Emporia Arts Council and a car show.

For more information and to sign up for a booth, contact Helmer at 340-6430.
