LOCAL ORGANIZERS for the ALS walk. The walk is Saturday at Jones Park. All the money raised will go to the ALS research.
• Don Roberts, who sang the national anthem at a
Kansas City Royals game.
• Erica Mahan, who represented Kansas in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen competition. The event took place in Orlando, Fla.
• Organizers and participants of the Flint Hills Beef Fest. This is the 20th year for the event and hundreds of people took part in the activities.
• Emporia Main Street, for being host to a back-to-school block party for Emporia State University students. Hundreds of students took part in the events.
• Detroit Diesel, which is expanding its product line and has moved part of its operation into the old Didde building at 12th Avenue and Graphic Arts Road.
• The search committee, which has moved quickly to identify candidates president of Emporia State University. The first candidate will be on campus for interviews in less than two weeks.
