Bank changes name

Friday, August 25, 2006

Emporia’s last locally owned bank will no longer have the town’s name in its title. On Sept. 5, Emporia State Bank & Trust Co. will change its name to ESB Financial.

In a news release issued Thursday, president Jim Wayman said the change reflects the broader services now supplied by the bank. As well as traditional banking and mortgages, the bank also offers investment services and trusts.

The change also acknowledges that the bank’s business has expanded outside Emporia. A branch has been opened in temporary quarters at 224 E. Poyntz Ave. in Manhattan. A permanent office is planned for that location.

The 119-year-old bank continues to be owned by the Wayman family of Emporia.

The name change will not affect customers’ dealings with the bank in any way, Wayman said. The bank’s routing number and customers’ account numbers will not be changed, so customers may continue to use Emporia State Bank checks until they run out. New checks will carry the ESB Financial name.
