Emporia, Kans. About 50 people showed up for Westar Energy’s open house Wednesday evening at the Flint Hills Technical College to get more information on Westar’s announcement to build a $333 million power plant northeast of Emporia.
The natural gas-fired combustion turbine peaking power plant will be built near the company’s Lang substation, which is about six miles northeast of Emporia, off Road 200, east of Road S.
Westar will hold a second open house from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Girl Scout of the Flint Hills building, 1200 Burlingame Road.
