A mixture of underclassmen and upperclassmen makes up this year’s Emporia Gazette All-Area Boys Basketball Team.
Charles Snyder, Emporia
Snyder made an immediate impact in his first year at the varsity level for Emporia High. The sophomore makes his first all-area appearance after receiving first-team All-Centennial League honors and an all-state selection from The Topeka Capital-Journal. Snyder was also named to the Ralph Miller Classic All-Tournament Team. He averaged 16.5 points per game and five rebounds in 14 games, before a broken hand sidelined him the final seven games.
Kyler McCullough, Emporia
McCullough earns his first all-area honor in his final year at EHS. McCullough was an honorable mention All-Centennial League selection and played in the Flint Hills Optimist Club’s All-Star Game where he scored 13 points.
Hunter Groh, Chase County
Groh is a first-time selection to the All-Area team. He led CCHS in scoring with 18 points per contest and added two steals, three assists and four rebounds. Groh was named a second-team All-FHL selection and played in the Flint Hills Optimist Club’s All-Star Game, scoring 12 points.
Devan McEwen, Lebo
McEwen makes his first appearance on the All-Area team after leading Lebo to the Class 1A State Tournament. He garnered first-team honors from the Lyon County League and was an honorable mention all-state selection by the Topeka Capital-Journal.
Cam Hoelting, Olpe
Hoelting is a first-time selection to the All-Area team in his final year as an Eagle. He was a unanimous first-team All-Lyon County League honoree, averaging 20 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, helping the Eagles to the Class 1A Sub-State Championship game. He was named an honorable mention all-state selection by the Topeka Capital-Journal.
Kaden Ott, Lebo
Ott also makes his debut on the All-Area team. He was a second-team All-LCL pick and scored 11 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the Wolves’ 44-41 loss to Osborne in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A State Tournament in Dodge City.
Dalen Kistner, Hartford
Kistner earns All-Area accolades for a second consecutive year. He was a second-team All-LCL selection and received honorable mention All-State honors from the Topeka Capital-Journal. Kistner averaged 16.1 points, 5.8 assists, 7.6 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game and drew 24 charges. He played in the Flint Hills Optimist Club’s All-Star Game and scored 12 points.
Tee Preisner, Northern Heights
Preisner makes his debut on the All-Area team as a junior. The Wildcat forward averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds per game, which earned him first-team All-Flint Hills League honors and an honorable mention all-state selection from the Topeka Capital-Journal.
Chase Harrison, Madison
Harrison makes his first appearance on the All-Area team as a sophomore. He earned many accolades including first-team selection All-LCL, an All-State honorable mention pick by the Topeka Capital-Journal and Sports In Kansas, while also being named a third-team selection to Sunflower Prep Sports All-Southeast Kansas Region team. Harrison averaged 14.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.4 assists and a steal a contest. He shot 40 percent from the field and was an 80 percent shooter at the free-throw line.
Koen Hula, Council Grove
Hula makes his debut on the all-area team as the sole freshman on the team. He averaged 8.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.4 blocks and two steals per contest earning second-team All-Flint Hills League honors. Hula shot a team-high 55 percent from the field. He tied the school record in drawn charges with 12.
