The Emporia Arts Center is hosting its 2nd Annual “Shaping the Future: A Young Artists’ Exhibition” this month in the Trusler Gallery, 815 Commercial St.

The exhibition will be on display through Aug. 31 An Artists’ Reception was held Friday as part of the First Friday Art Walk with an awards ceremony naming first-through-third-place pieces in four different age groups.

“Shaping the Future” is open to all children in Emporia and surrounding communities between the ages of 5 and 17. Artwork must have been created by the submitting artist in the last year All mediums are welcome (drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, jewelry, sculpture, etc.).

A panel of judges including longtime art supporter and enthusiast Angie Baker, First Friday co-Founder and co-Organizer Joel Smith and Professor of Art at Emporia State University John Decker had the unenviable task of choosing the winners. The top three in each age group received cash prizes.

All exhibitions in the Trusler Gallery of the Emporia Arts Center are free to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. from Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The names of all entrants and winners are included in the gallery.
