Storm thunderstorms rolled through Lyon County in the early hours Friday morning.

Wind gusts were clocked as high as 89 miles per hour at Emporia Municipal Airport as trees, power lines and structures throughout the county were knocked over. Westar and Lyon - Coffey County Electric customers reported widespread power outages county- and area-wide. Southern Lyon County Schools canceled school Friday because Olpe building was still without power Friday morning.

A grain bin at AgChoice outside of Olpe blew over and was heavily damaged and a giant hole was punched into the roof of a shed on the property. The roof of Visser Hall at Emporia State University was damaged and there was major water damage on the third floor of the resource center.
