An Olpe man was hospitalized and traffic was rerouted on a portion of S. Highway 99 after reports of an injury accident Saturday night.

Around 9:15 p.m. dispatch indicated an injury accident on the 800 block of S. Highway 99.

According to a written release from Lyon County Sheriff’s Deputy Nathan Rankin, Russell Dedmon, 48, of Olpe was traveling southbound on a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he struck an animal in the roadway.

This caused him to lose control and leave the motorcycle. Dedmon was transported to Newman Regional Hospital for his injuries, but the extent of his injuries was not made clear.

Rankin said the accident remains under investigation by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

The motorcycle was actually a 2005 Harley Davidson.
