I think that the Royals should do everything they can to get Joe Garardi before he goes out on the market. And by making Sept. 1 the start date, they can do this.
Most people think it will be Frank White, but I think they should look outside the organization. Frank White had his chance with Butler and Gordon in Wichita and really didn't succeed much, so I think they should look for someone outside to come in.

I don't know if this is good or bad, but I believe the next coach will be former Brave (and Royal for a year) Terry Pendleton. Dayton Moore has shown during his time as GM for the Royals that he won't hesitate to try to copy off the Braves to bring K.C. success. He has taken Atlanta staff members and scouts and has also made deals (including the Dotel-Davies trade last week) for Atlanta players.
Pendleton seems to be one of the biggest managerial names on the market, and I would be pretty surprised if Dayton didn't go with him, especially because he knows him personally.
It's also interesting that Dayton didn't go after an outfielder in his trade of Dotel. Does this mean there's a possibility the Royals could open their wallets and sign Atlanta free agent Andruw Jones??
It would seem to make sense given Dayton's Atlanta tendencies in his first year with the Royals.

I've got to agree with sportsfanatic on this one. I think right now, Pendleton has to be the favorite. Dayton Moore has shown that if he is going to deal with any other franchise, he's going to favor the Braves organization. Not that I'm complaining.
