SUDS: The Rocking 60's Musical Soap Opera
Last produced at Off Broadstreet back in 1996. SUDS depicts two bumbling guardian angels sent to Earth to help a young laundromat employee with her troubled love life. This "brassy vs. airhead" dynamic duo does the best they can, which ain't much. SUDS is a fast-paced musical comedy that fits into Off Broadstreet's "recession busting" theme this year, i.e. We can help one another "look on the bright side of life."
Set in a laundromat in the early 1960's, SUDS makes clever use of more than forty familiar hit songs from the era to help advance the action. When employee Cindy laments the fact that she has been jilted by her pen-pal boyfriend by singing "Have you ever been lonely...you gotta help me, girl," the guardian angels quickly respond with "You can't hurry love, no you just have to wait!"
