Introduction to Personal Computing

Description: A series of three, 1 1/2-hour, hands-on sessions for adults at the computer. Enroll for one or all three sessions; however, each class period will build on the previous session. Dr. Nona Berghaus, retired professor from Emporia State University School of Business, will be the instructor.
I: GETTING STARTED WITH THE COMPUTER - This class will define the different computer hardware. It will cover how the handle the mouse and keyboard. Find out what you need to know when purchasing a computer. Learn the how to type and print a letter to a friend.
II. GETTING STARTED WITH MICROSOFT WORD - This class will cover the basics of using the Windows program Microsoft Word. It will cover: Selecting, copying, and pasting text; Learning about different fonts and sizes; Setting margins and tabs; Inserting clip art into a document; and Saving a document.
III. UNDERSTANDING INTERNET BASICS - The definitions of Internet terms; How to do some basic surfing on the internet; How to set up an e-mail account at Yahoo; and How to do internet searches using Google.
