I disabled the comment section of the Banking on the Future story because they said little about the story topic (storing stem cells for future medical use) and instead turned into a personal attack on one family and its choices.

I agree wholeheartedly with Gwen that it is totally inappropriate to attack a family. I didn't read any of the comments that she referred to, but if they were inappropriate, they should have been deleted. By the same standard, Gwen should delete Pat Kelley's editorials when he attacks people who have recently died just because he disagrees with the deceased politically (see recent editorial entitled "Jesse Helms, Unchangeable"). All of us, including the Editor, should be respectful and decent toward each other. I am very concerned about the outrageous things that may be said about Tony Snow, who died today. Just because he was conservative did not make him a monster.

I highly doubt Pat Kelly attacked anyone in any of his editorials ever. He may disagree with the choices and actions someone takes but crossing the line and attacking someone ... I think we can all leave that to Nancy Grace. Pat Kelley is hands down one of the best assets The Emporia Gazette has, and I have enjoyed most of his editorials. The Batman has spoken.

Batman: For proof of my post, I cite his editorial entitled "Jesse Helms, Unchangeable" in which he commented about the death of former US Senator Jesse Helms, a conservative Republican from North Carolina. Additionally, today's editorial (the thesis for which is that conservative Republicans have lost electoral ground) clearly suggests that conservatives are not good people. Please read both and see what you think.

Kelly's editorial was spot on about Helms.
