I have to disagree about men tipping better than women.....I worked as a waitress supporting 3 children for over 5 years and I found people with "money"were worse tippers than the families that saved to go out for a sit down meal, as a rule. Here where I live, it is about equal with the tipping between men and women. Recently, I paid for a family outing where the bill was 110.00 and the man who said he would leave the tip left a lousy $2.00 tip (and his meal was paid for by me as well). I left much more than that when I saw how much he put down for a table of 6. He is no longer invited to come along. Sheesh....

A two dollar tip for a 110-dollar meal and he didn't even pay any on the meal...now that is maximum cheap.
Actually I think tips and who gives them has a lot to do with the place and clientele. Men often tip the cute college girl waitress pretty well.....women are more likely to tip the working mom type better. A club or restaurant usually tips better than a cafe or truck stop. Waiters don't usually do well until you get into the upper echelon of places and then some of them make damned good money......up in the six figures in the best places.

create, for what its worth, the word I get, is that when Walmart goes thru its next remodel, there will be no fabric or sewing dept. per say. So, I am guessing the lady that takes care of the fabric/sewing doesn' t much care, since that may be why she is considering retireing before her particular job is eliminated anyway . Also here is a little more info about Walmart. Recently the Emporia Walmart store, consolidated from 2 to 5 departments under one Dept. manager and this may have made for less costumer interaction/service. Now one Dept. manager has 2 to 5 times the departments and responsibility as before, but did not recieve any more pay for the added work and responsibility. As I have said before if you think Walmart is a bad experience now, just you wait, it will get worse.
And as for the phone number on the Walmart receipt. That is the general Walmart store number. Try calling the number and see if Randy Heevner personally answers the phone . I don' t think that he will. Shoot, neither he nor any of the co-managers, assistant managers, zone managers will answer when they are paged to take a phone call, , when someone does call and ask to talk to them .

methusla, thank you for that information on the sewing department. I'm sure there will be quite a number of folks upset to hear that. I remember when they stopped carrying embroidery thread. Wow! Those who enjoy embroidering had seventeen cows. Then a bunch convinced the lady at Second Love on Commercial Street to start carrying embroidery thread. But if you ask at Wal Mart, it's always, "I don't know who carries that in town." Baloney!!!
If they don't carry the thread, can't they at least say they believe Second Love or Prairie Pieces Quilt Shop carries it?
When Wal Mart comes in to cripple a town, they're willing to carry everything from soup to nuts. Before long, they put other businesses out entirely. Then, like what is happening now, they start cutting departments and leaving customers in a lurch. It's as if they have a map to follow.
I see advertising on TV that relates how Wal Mart will soon only carry their own house brand for everything they can. Generic, generic, generic. That equals higher profit margin for Uncle Walton's kiddies.
I'm still upset about how they treat asparagus. Easy come, easy go I suppose. I'll bet their waste in the produce department must be tremendous.

You are quite right about waste at Walmart. Walmart has a huge trash compactor at the south end of the building and all sorts of stuff is thrown into that compactor, from food stuffs, to clothing, to t.v.s, to broken bags of pet food, I mean anything and everything goes into the compactor.
One time a 60 inch projection big screen t.v. was returned, in working order. I found out that they were going to throw it into the trash compactor and I talked to the store manager and offered to buy it for $200 dollars, but was refused the oppertunity to purchase it, so it was thrown into the compactor. So I asked the store manager why, instead of throwing stuff away they didn' t donate it to charity or have a huge sidewalk sale with everthing marked at 80% off and he just laughed at me. This is still their policy today.

methusla....Not criticizing your suggestion...something like that would be great for people like us....but don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen.
The reason is....for every big screen TV you buy for 200 dollars is one they won't be able to sell for full price. It's the same with all other damaged or unsellable items. That amounts to direct competition with your self....especially when people quit shopping for new items while they wait for the garage sale. Wal-Mart...like all large corporations...has one concern and one concern only......What is best for Wal-Mart! What may be best for you is only incidental.
The business of business is business.

methusla,
I don't know about that... I worked a Walmart back in the day and we never threw TV's and whatnot into the trash compactor. In fact, they were really strict on what we could put in there because they didn't want it to start a fire or create a hazardous spill when crushed. No paint, no chemicals, and certainly not TV's. Where I worked, we even saved dog food from bags that had ripped-open and we put it in a big tub and donated it to pet shelters and fire departments. (that had dogs)
I didn't work there very long, but not because it was a bad place to work; I just moved out of town and hadn't worked there long enough to qualify for a transfer to the store in the new town.
It is a business, after all, so if they aren't selling enough sewing materials to justify having a whole department for it, then I can't blame them if they get rid of it. I know I've never had a need to buy fabric, glitter, or colored pipe cleaner! Get rid of arts and crafts and expand the electronics or outdoors departments! They need a better selection of Mepps spinners up in that joint!

I agrree, that the businesses of businesses is business. But it seems that Walmarts business is the businesses of destroying other businesses to become a " Monopoly " .

I literally LOLed and then I typed it!
That's funny right there.
On to the seriousness. I know Walmart has provided work for several friends of mine when they really needed work. I know capitalism is a bad guy these days but the peeps I role with like to be able to provide for themselves and try very hard not to burden others. You are welcome.

Agreed...and once they destroy the competition in a given area history has shown us they will almost certainly then start to offer less and provide fewer jobs. Why should they...'then you have no other place to go. Competition is good....no competition is bad. Bad for jobs and prices. And competition is a cornerstone of capitalism. No competition is a cornerstone of communism.
