What does Clint Bowyer do? He participates in a sport that intels driving a car around in a circle. Yes he might be decent at it but no he is no Earnhardt for that matter. I say if we are going to put up any sign at all it should represent something thats earned that right. Not Clint Bowyer, not Joe Bob that donated $, and definitely not the city of emporia. The veterans should be the ones getting a sign at all. Lets give the men and women who actually lived and died for the right to be acknowledged.

Before moving to Emporia 3 years ago I had never heard of WAW and the rest of the world (beyond the city limits) hasn't either. It sounds to me like Colgate-Palmolive is going to end up doing more for this community than than anybody fighting for sign space.

Why can't the signs just say, "Welcome to Emporia"?

sandman (anonymous) says...
MisterO, WHY? If in history, I believe Emporia needs to be recognized for the founding city of "Veterans Day" and Mr. William A. White, who I believe also won the "Noble Peace Prize".

No, not the Peace Prize. WAW won the Pulitzer in 1946 for an editorial he wrote entitled, "To an Anxious Friend" relating to the issue of free speech.

Why don't we put up electronic welcome to emporia signs so we could rent out the "Home of......" space to the highest bidder for any twenty four hour period. I can see it now...."Welcome to Emporia.....Home of biscuitboy"......my momma would be so proud.
This would not only represent capitalism's core premise that everything is for sale.....it would add much needed lucre to the city trough.

How about a sign that says, " Welcome to Emporia, birth place of veterans day "

hey biscuitboy, I already put out the idea of renting out sign space by placing large hooks on there so that the sign could be easily changed for the highest bidder.........but you are right, an electronic sign would make more sense cause Zimmerman could just change it right from his office while he counts his "endorsement" money rather than getting off his ass and making this a better place to live!

Sorry my friend....didn't mean to muscle in on your idea. Think of it more as an attempt to tweak your plan than as a theft....for I have always stood steadfast against burglary.
And gg....I'm still sorry for being a moron.

How about this idea....."Emporia--Home of everybody that makes it their home"......now who could argue with that.

reddog (K. B. Thomas Jr.) says...
K.B. Thomas Jr. said,"Surely the Emporia City Commission doesn't want to be known as a bunch of ICONOCLASTS." If they do to each commissioner this will be a idiosyncrasy." I would hope they would not be illiberal about the free standing sign exclusive to the Veterans. If KDOT interfers, perhaps some new legislation will take care of the problem.
