I went to sleep early last evening only to awake and find the entire discussion on Obama winning the Nobel prize missing.
If a few don't know how to behave punish them not the rest of us!

If anybody can fill me in without raising the wrath of the powers that be....I would appreciate knowing what happened.

I agree, biscuitboy.
In the meantime, I found this great article that isn't very long, but says it all. I especially agree with the suggestion of what President Obama should do with the prize money -- donate it to building schools in areas that need it. That place in North Carolina comes to mind where the train goes by every 15 minutes and shakes everything and prevents the kids from learning. Move the school and build a new one, Mr. President.
Here is the intro to the article I spoke of. It is written previous to the President's speech in the Rose Garden yesterday:
"There is a slight whiff of condescension attending the announcement that Barack Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize. There is the sense that he has won simply by not being George W. Bush. Effete Europe is congratulating rowdy America for cleaning up its act and not bringing guns to the dinner table."
Here's the rest of it from a Time magazine blog...

biscuitboy, I didn't read any posts after about 8 last night. I do know the posts were getting pretty rowdy by then. I myself threatened to knock down that dale dude after the remark he made which was a clear threat on the President's life.
In reading the Time article I posted above, I stopped for a minute at the place about how the American people deserve this prize for "sustaining a stable and civil democracy that is the envy of the world. And he should celebrate the essential American idea: that the things we have in common as human beings are more important than the things that divide us. It doesn't matter who you are, where you come from, whether you believe in God or not--this American principle, the belief in certain inalienable rights, should be the basis for international interactions as well."
And then I thought about this little blog of ours in a small American town where the announcement of our own President's winning the Nobel Prize brought so much vitriolic commentary that the whole thread had to be shut down entirely.

Here is a great article I found. The quote is a comment the writer made in the comments section under the story. It reminded me of this forum.

"It’s funny how everyone is taking the comments of those questioning the Nobel Foundations choice as an attack against Obama. Sharp!"

The Nobel Peace Prize was given to President Carter, and Al Gore, and, anyone BUT President George W. Bush. So, the Norwegians decided to put an exclamation point on their message to the U.S. as to how much they disliked President Bush, by giving President Obama the Prize before he has done anything, but skillfully read a teleprompter.
I'm a full blooded Norwegian, and other than lutefisk, I couldn't think of a reason I wasn't proud of my heritage. Now, I have another.
It was totally political. Very sad, that such an esteemed award is now just an embarrasment. UFF DA!

create...good article....it ask the appropriate questions without wallowing in dislike for the man. I agree that the award was probably premature and may in the long run be every bit as hurtful to him as many would like it to be. But all that can be said by someone without all the overheated rhetoric.

I'll bet the Nobel folks didn't even consider the shenanigans at the G8 summit when they made their choice. I couldn't believe my ears when I read it.

"This is going to be so hilarious," said President Barack Obama, who plans to take time away from health care negotiations to oversee the distribution of heavily armored mobilized units to the citizens of Liechtenstein and Andorra. "Once they get into it, they're going to go nuts. They're just going to totally go off on each other."
"I cannot wait," he added."

Even though you two don't get humor, I think you'll be able to enjoy this one cuz it's about someone you two mutually despise. Enjoy, it's pretty funny.

"Hoo, boy," said the 43rd president of the United States of America, George W. Bush, who was elected to the office on two separate occasions and served in the White House for the 225th through 232nd years of this country's history. "I can't believe it."
Added Bush, "I just can't believe it."

I wonder if the thread was shut down because of dale001's comment? That's what I'm thinking.....
create, if you think that the article "brought so much vitriolic commentary that the whole thread had to be shut down entirely." (aside from dale001's comment) -
Are you brand new to these boards? Would you like me to point out some articles during the Bush years that brought (aside from dale's) vitriolic comments easily equal and probably beyond what you read on this particular one? I can point you to multiple threads if you like......
So, again. I didn't find the comments any more vitriolic here than many other threads. Aside from dale's. I think that's why it got pulled......... that ONE comment........and rightfully so........

Other than dale101's asinine remark I had not found anything unusually vitriolic about the thread up until the time I turned into a pumpkin. Spirited and intense at times but not vitriolic.

Since the Gazette publishes the writings of Gary Lukert I seriously doubt they would shut down a discussion because someone stirred the Republicans tea with a fecal matter covered boot. They would probably nominate them for a Nobel peace prize and they'd have a good shot at winning from what I hear.

What happened to the Obama discussion may be getting contagious. Now the "not worth the debt" thread has dropped off the radar on the stories board never to reappear on forums....and it had over 250 posts. Has the Gazette decided these discussions are no longer worth storing for future reference?

You can't help but think that blogs and such are very frustrating to the media who until recently has had a monopoly on spinning the facts to fit their agenda. Now we all can get on and spin things our way no matter how "serious" or ridiculous we may be.
