Sorry to belabor the point, but I hope this puts the rumor to rest. Best argument of all is contained in this snopes post -- why would a man spending millions upon millions of dollars to attain the presidency risk it all over a falsified birth certificate which could be easily revealed as a forgery in no time at all. And yes, he has indeed presented a copy of his birth certificate for inspection to the proper authorities. And no, he has not presented the ORIGINAL because the original is registered and preserved in the files of the Hawaii Board of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics. Some people, however, continue to believe otherwise simply because they want to and no amount of evidence will sway them. What is more, they are just plain upset that this man became president.

I know this thread has wandered around on several different topics somewhat related to politicians and their accountability/character..... but..... just as I've said..... since it looks like Sanford was not the honest and moral character in his personal life that he claimed to be...... looks like he didn't mind sticking it to us (taxpayers) in his public life either...... big surprise (NOT!).... hope that tongue-in-cheek last line doesn't get this comment removed.... :)

Observation, agreed. I'm beginning to wonder if Hart didn't speak too soon since there hasn't been a retraction. Can any of the gazette staff that monitor these boards so dilligently takes some time to investigate this and give us an update? I want to know who to point the finger at! If someone has been studying the bible and praying in their free time we have a right to know about it! It's not like they were doing harmless things like getting favors from interns or performing magic tricks in the white house during their free time. Hey Monica, wanna see me make this cigar disapear?

Don't know if there is any conformation on the c street house yet, but if your curious try "God's Senator" on the internet. This Rolling Stone article about Sam does state he lived in the house on c street owned by a "Cell". If you also read the entire article it mentions his chief of staff, and a fight he got into in college over gay rights. The chief of staff is running for Brownbacks office now and his headquarters are in Strong city or Cottonwood falls I think. He and his family were in the 4th of July parade. The article also has a nice picture of Brownback in an Emporia Veterans Day parade with the Town Royal in the background. Almost a better picture than the one of my house:)

Brian Hart, Communications Director, is in Washington D.C.I verified, by phone, today that he did post on our forum about Senator Brownback. They have a policy of only replying to an article,(or blog) once, unless they need to.
If you have any other questions he is at..202-224-6521.
Nothing has changed. The information is the same, so I was told that I could pass this on.
Also, if anyone wants to send a message to Senator Brownback regarding the Health Bill, you can call that number (or, Topeka-785-233-2503.)
I asked that the Senator please READ the Bill, if- or when- it goes to the Senate, and that he requests it be posted on the internet for public reading, for at least the amount of time the President promised all bills would be posted.

I don' t know why people even get upset, discuss or debate such topics, that relate to any politician and there wrong doing. I think we all know that politicians, all politicians are not the most honest, credible, accountable or trustworthy individuals in the world.
This is all I have to say on the matter of politicians and their credibility. accountability or character !

I think letting this story go into left field is the idea. I noticed during the whole smoking ban conversation that someone imposed a 50 or 100 post limit on these boards. Especially during the aftermath of the Gazette reporting on that air quality "study" CAE put together AND conducted AND presented the findings.

Since then I am noticing some stories that have in excess of 250 posts to the blog before it is turned over to a forum. While other stories are kept within the limit. I am NOT prepared to say that the Gazette consciously rolls stories over into a forum when the comments don't put the Gazette or their staff in a positive light. I would appreciate help from the routine posters to keep a closer eye on them with regard to how many posts a story needs before it gets thrown into a forum. I know we are all busy people. Something I am almost sure media folks take into account.

I used to post a lot a year or so ago, but I do read, and I am amazed at how long we can go on a topic Sometimes it changes 2 or 3 times, before getting back to the original topic though.
I've been involved in a few threads over the years that have continued on over 50 -100 posts, but, I'd rather see that happen than no discussions at all.
I'm sure Methusla and Create will agree with me.(and Observation, too)?

The folks here contributing and the range of intelligent discussion are the reasons I keep coming back. I love the points of view here. I love the exchange of ideas as well as the conflicts. I would rather have an indexed thread than after a certain amount of posts gets rolled out to a separate url that doesn't register on the most active section of the home page. If a story doesn't register on the most active section of the home page the less people will weigh in. So, in essence, rolling a story out to the forum is a way to curb attention being given to a story. Or it is a way to distinguish old news from new news.

I just want my local paper to be responsible, show little bias and encourage free discussion of news. Have a great weekend everybody!

I tried and tried to stay out of the Presidential Citizenship debate...but to no avail. So here goes.

What possible motivation could President Obama have for lowering himself into this rather senseless debate over his birth certificate. He was duly elected and sworn in as the President of the United States of America. He has been accepted as such by every legitimate government in the world. No legitimate legal authority is challenging his position. So why legitimize the moot concerns of a few conspiracy theorists. To pay any attention to their demands....much less offer up proof to counter their claims.....would only serve to justify claims that as of now have no merit. JMO

Socialized medicine will get pushed through, it's going to happen. Then there are going to have to be all sorts of bans and "sin" taxes to pay for it and the religious right will get blamed for it even though they(bans and taxes) will come from the left to cut health care costs and raise money to pay for their social programs. Articles like this are just prepping people to believe that the religious right is responsible for bans and such and the swingin' left wants you to live it up and they won't judge(even though when you start to bankrupt their social agendas they will have to). The sad thing is some on the right will support the bans and taxes because they forget about the "small" in small government. That's why I'm third party.

I read somewhere that the news has gotten into the entertainment business and I think that's true. No more "just the facts" there's gotta be a hook or an angle to dazzle the readers/viewers/listeners/people getting their "news" beamed straight into their brains by secret government satellites. Walter was old school "just the facts" and he will be missed. Nowadays you have to decode what the media spews, it's sad.

I have thought that the bast place for her would be in a third party(Constitution Party) and I would vote for her. She appears to have the 3rd party spirit with statements like "Politically, if I die, I die. So be it".I really like that. I don't think however that a third party can get 34%. People are still too afraid that they are throwing their vote away by voting third party. Me, I don't care if my vote "doesn't count" it's my conscience that counts. Winning isn't always winning and losing isn't always losing. If that makes sense.

If you would like to discuss racism let's talk about Obama getting 95% of the black vote. I didn't vote for Obama because of his politics.............and oh, because as a Kenyan national he is not eligible to be president of the US.

I remember first arriving in Emporia from Hawaii in the mid-70's and having people actually ask, "How do you like living in the states?" I shook my head then, and I'm shaking it now. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, I stayed. You bet I stayed, and obtained for myself an excellent education at ESU too. However, I still shake my head from time to time and one of those times is now.

create - did people mention "how do you like it here in the states" because they didn't know Hawaii was a state, or was it their way of referring to the "mainland"? I've used that exact phrase myself before to people from Hawaii and/or Alaska, and I meant it as a slangy way of referring to the "lower 48".

And I knew full well at the time both were a state. After all, I could see both of them from the roof of my house :)

Observation - what about Valiant, the pigeon (from the animated movie)? I'll bet Jimbo would have eaten Valiant if given half a chance, so I'm not all that convinced Jimbo wasn't working undercover........

All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

The Birth Announcement. A birth announcement in a newspaper means nothing. Although Michelle Malkin waxed a little snarky on this, "Did a fortune-teller place it in the paper knowing he would run for president?", it is fairly common to run such announcements for babies born outside the area of the announcement or even the US. Proud grandparents, for example, could have run the announcement just to let people know they are now grandparents.

The announcement is not exactly informative . It says "Mr. and Mrs. Barack H. Obama, 6085 Kalanianaole Hwy, son. Aug 4." That's it. It ran on page B-6 of the August 13, 1961 edition of The Sunday Advertiser. It is not an official document of any kind and makes no claim of the location of his birth in any case. It announces a birth, period.

The "Verification." Here is how the story was reported by KITV .

"The state's Department of Health director on Friday released a statement verifying the legitimacy of Sen. Barack Obama birth certificate."

That looks pretty black and white -- at first glance. And that is how it normally gets reported. But read it again and then the whole article. The above statement simply says the birth certificate is legitimate. The actual quote from the Department of Health director is

"I as Director of Health for the State of Hawai‘i, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawai‘i State Department of Health has Sen. Obama's original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures."

All they did was verify that Obama's original birth certificate is on record. But that doesn't tell us what we need to know. What we need to know is where he was born.

Surprisingly, Hawaii happens to issue birth certificates for babies born outside Hawaii. The Hawaiian law on that states:

"Certificates for children born out of State. (a) Upon application of an adult or the legal parents of a minor child, the director of health shall issue a birth certificate for such adult or minor, provided that proof has been submitted to the director of health that the legal parents of such individual while living without the Territory or State of Hawaii had declared the Territory or State of Hawaii as their legal residence for at least one year immediately preceding the birth or adoption of such child."

The state of Hawaii did not say what was on the certificate and it won't release a copy out of privacy considerations. The state of Hawaii simply verified that Obama has a birth certificate on record; it did not verify that he was born in Hawaii.

I have seen what was purported to be a copy of President Obama's birth certificate on TV numerous occassions.....including just moments ago on Morning Joe where Joe himself (a conservative Republican) described this entire situation as a manufactured concept of the conspiracy fringe.

I too carry a copy of my purported birth certificate that I can whip out and show people if I need to. But apparently nothing that has been done so far is good enought to satisfy you or under-score so I assume that all these copies that I keep seeing are just part of the conspiracy in your view. So just what is it that you are wanting to see that you havern't already seen.....and just what would have to be offered to prove the point to you? What would you accept as his birth certificate? And if his copy can be faked why can't mine or anybody else's for that matter? If that;s true then what value do they have at all?

To my knowledge no previous president in modern times anyway has ever been asked to stand with hat and birth certificate in hand at the swearing in ceremony so I have to question why now? And since I have never known anyone that felt such a billboard was in order....nor have I ever seen one in the past....I again have to question why now?

I'll even take it one step further and say that it doesn't really matter where he was born or if his father was a British citizen and his mother a minor. He was raised most of his life here in the US and is a US citizen now. The constitution is more of a guidline and needs to be adapted to the conditions we have today. Besides, its too late now, he is president and everyone needs to deal with it! Especially these hillbilly christians who don't like him just because he doesn't practice religion!

Just for the sake of argument, I asked my daughter who is visiting from Chicago this week, to bring her copy of her birth certificate with her. She was born in Honolulu in July of 1963, to me, a woman of part Hawaiian, part Portuguese ancestry who was born in the Territory of Hawaii in 1943, and to her father, a white anglo-saxon Texan. The copy of her birth certificate looks just like the one I've seen of Obama. I'm guessing the designs were the same since they are of the same vintage by only two years.

My daughter's birth announcements in the Honolulu Advertiser and Honolulu Star Bulletin look exactly like the one quoted by under_score above. Just the names and addresses are different of course. Those two newspapers are major dailies serving well over a million people on all eight islands. Do you honestly think they have room for more than one quick sentence to announce a birth? On top of that, genealogy researchers use birth announcements in newspapers in their research and offer place of birth with those announcements as proof.

C'mon! This is just another wingnut conspiracy and already the talking heads are all referring to it in that way.

Gun's should be outlawed. Hunting is rediculous. There is plenty of meat in the supermarket there is no reason to have to go and kill anything. Obama was right when he said that when people are scared they start clinging to guns and religion.

That is my only critique of Obama, I wish he would fight for what we believe in a little harder and stand up for what he believes. But I guess for political reasons you can't always do that.

Again.... I don't really care that much.... but its interesting in an entertaining sort of way....... again.... the one thing they are asking for.... the original certificate.... I'm sure it is within the power of the POTUS to ask for and produce it.... it kindof sounds to me like that is what the suits are asking for, correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe you could explain to me why that is so difficult for someone with that much power? One simple request..... instead everyone offers up mountains of "evidence" of anything and everything but that which is being asked for.
Besides, what one person calls "evidence" another might not be convinced of its authenticity. Remember WMD's?
Personally, I'd prefer to see proof that "I" am wrong, so the whole shebang can finally just go away (except for the diehards who will always be among us, on BOTH sides). Because I'm not convinced either way, just curious as I've said (and entertained). But I think that's what everyone you are referring to is asking for.

Who the hell is Gary Luckert and what has he done to achieve the reputation....or lack of it.....that he seems to have on these boards. You see, I'm really not a political animal that spends all my life trolling the internet for names and data I can throw around. I'm just a person with a brain who thinks for himself and believes he has as much right to state his thoughts as anybody else here. So I mean it when I say I have no idea who this guy is.

State of hawaii officials however have apparently already certified that the birth certificate already in circulation is authentic....and that certification has already been rejected outright by one of our fellow posters here to day.....so what more can I say?

After reading his entries I can certainly understand why so many people here dislike him even if not for what he says...but for the way he says it. But I am always a little amused at how sensitive some people here can be as to how they are addressed when I have been called moron, an idiot, a homosexual, a lazy ingrate, and a rather long version of a--hole. All of this with virtually no notice given by some of the same so-sensitive folks.

But if I offered my approval to who post here and who doesn't based on weather or not I liked what they said or how they said it.....there would be many who wouldn't get my welcome.

So weather I agree with what he says or not is irrelevent.....I believe he has the right to say it. Isn't that after all what freedom of speech means?

Okay, after much inner debate as to whether I wanted to join in anything Seinfeld's George had anything to do with (he's a miserable little man who bothers me), I reluctantly followed the Frogger link. I attempted a round or two, finding it as bothersome as reading Gary Lukert's ramblings, when my intrigued young son asked to try it. He summed up my feelings about the whole thing when, with disdain, he said, "I thought frogs could swim?"

biscuitboy, I apologize if you didn't know who Gary Lukert is/was, I was assuming you did. It has/had nothing to do with trolling the internet for hours, simply that he somehow manages to get his ideas published here as an editorial at times. However, as much as I try to understand and give both sides the benefit of the doubt at times, there is a difference between everyone having their opinion and someone spouting off crap that takes about 10 seconds to refute 100%. My first experience with his "scholarly" writings was a rant about how only Republicans love killing babies and old people, they send kids to die, if they had kids of their own in the military they wouldn't, like the Democrats do. It took about 10 seconds to pull up the stats showing that Republicans with children in the military outnumber Democrats by quite a ways, and anyone with half a brain and who didn't totally flunk high-school history can go back in the last century and name quite a few wars that we entered under Democrat administrations.
So there's a difference between opinion and just being a plain idiot liar. So far, as much as I may get into some rather heated debates with different posters on here, I still have respect for pretty much just about everyone's opinion, except for his, and possibly one or 2 others that sound like him posting under another name. Besides, every adult knows it is extremely difficult to have a honest debate with a 2 year old. Sometimes they just need to sit in the corner until they can come back and play nice with others.

That being said...... I still think Frogger is a cool game, so maybe I'm not all that grown up either - LOL :)

WOW. Did everyone watch the prime time press conference last night? President Obama was MAGNIFICENT!

For everyone who says he doesn't have a plan for health care and don't understand how it works I think he cleared up any questions! We cannot avoid it just because we are scared!

Also, anyone who says the the press takes it easy on him obviously wasn't watching last night. They were brutal. But he handled every question in his usual fashion and has the ability to put it in terms every American can understand.

We should be so lucky if Obama was born in another country. That he is so worldly is probably the reason he is so good at foreign affairs. I don't know if any of you Bush and Cheney lovers have noticed this but everyone in the world LOVES us right now. Just look at the polls. Also, he's finally putting pressure on the Jews to stop the genocide in the Palestinian territory. By the time his first term is over we will probably have peace in the middle east.

We will also have free government health care for every person, not just rich people will get good care.

I think it is obvious now that we did to little to stimulate the economy. We needed about 3 times as much in the stimulus package, most of which should have been used to hire a massive amount of goverment workers to complete shovel ready projects. We did too little and now is the time to correct it.

Obama is certainly a genius but until we can get the rest of these do nothing republicans replaced we're not going to be able to accomplish everything that we want to!

And I just heard yesterday that Hillary is considering running in 2016!!! Can you imagine the shape our country will be in if we have Obama from 2008 to 2016 and the Hillary from 2016 to 2024??? I can't wait!

bisquickboy......if he is indeed genuine....which I doubt....makes the mistake of assumming that because we agree on some subjects I am some how like him. Many others on here make the same mistake by assumming because we disagree on some matters I am not like them. Reality...at least in my opinion......is that bisquikboy [if he is genuine] is more like under-score than me. Both are agenda driven ideologues......spewing party line regardless of anything else......and totally ignoring anything that doesn't fit into their preconcieved ideas.

Many people on here claim to be independents. Most...and there are a few exceptions.....are only refering to their independence from one of the two mainstream political parties.
These independents however are, again for the most part, joined at the hip with another political affiliation.....usually right of the republican party.

There are very few real independent thinkers on here that cross ideology lines and takes stands based on an individual issue regardless of party platform. I believe I am one of them.....and appear more liberal than I really am only in comprarison to so many on here that are to the right of Attilla the Hun.

So bisquikboy...if you are real....that's fine. But we share little in common other than our agreement on some topics of interest at the moment. I don't mean this as an affront to you. I just don't like being saddled with somebody else's ideology.
