This kind of thing seems to defiinitely be on the rise. What a shame that the once nearly sactimonious relationship between teacher and student is now cheapened and suspect.

Whats worse is the double standard and the probation this person would have received if he was a pretty girl.

Perhaps if parents stopped idolizing(sp) their athlete children they wouldn't grow up thinking they are something special. This is exactly why I am against "organized" sports! Oh and that it's really boring.

I don't know that I would go so far as to say I was against organized sports seriouslyfolks......but I do agree that they are given far too much money, time, and attention in the public school system. And the idolization of the star athletes can be devastating to thier view of themselves as well as to the way they are seen by others.

None of this is to say that aall atheletes turn out bad....and atheletics do develop good traits as well......but you don't have to look far to find examples of inflated egos and do no wrong attitudes....especially in pro-sports.

And the really said part is that it is us middleaged and older men trying to live vicariously through these teams that are the root cause of much of this,

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SAY IS FIRST OF ALL, 14-16 YR OLD FEMALES ARE NOT ALWAYS SO INNOCENT. I LIVE HERE IN EMPORIA, AM MARRIED TO A VERY NICE LOOKING YOUNG MAN, AND WHAT I SEE THAT HAPPENS IN OUR OWN FRONT YARD, REALLY MAKES ME WONDER WHAT EXACTLY REALLY HAPPENED IN THIS CASE. MY HUSBAND, EVERY WEEKEND DOES OUR YARD WORK, WORKS ON HIS VEHICLES ETC IN OUR FRONT YARD. THE STREET WE LIVE ON HAS A CONSTANT FLOW OF VERY YOUNG FEMALES (13-16 AVG.) AND THEIR FRIENDS PARADING UP AND DOWN THE STREET. MY HUSBAND IS 24 YRS OLD ALSO. I HAVE WATCHED ALMOST EVERY WEEKEND OF THESE YOUNG GIRLS SLOWLY WALKING BY OUR HOME, FLIRTING TO THE MAX WITH MY HUSBAND, THE GIRLS WEARING THOSE LIL SHORT SHORTS WITH THEIR BUTT CHEEKS HANGING OUT ( THE ONES THAT SO MANY MOMMIES THINK ARE SOOOO CUTE) SEVERAL OF THESE YOUNG GIRLS HAVE WALKED UP TO MY HUSBAND AND HANDED HIM THEIR CELL PHONE NUMBERS AND TOLD HIM HOW "HOT" HE LOOKS AND HE LOOKS AT THEM AND SAYS HOW OLD ARE YOU? OUT OF 6 OF THE GIRLS THAT HAVE GIVIEN HIM A PHONE NUMBER, 3 OF THEM STATED THEY WERE 18, HE WENT AS FAR AS TELLING EACH GIRL, "SO YOU WON'T MIND IF I SPEAK WITH ONE OF YOUR PARENTS CONCERNING YOUR AGE, AND WITH A GIGGLE THEIR COMMENTS WERE...MY PARENTS LIVE IN KC OR SOME OTHER RIDICULOUS EXCUSE WHY A PARENT COULDNT BE ADDRESSED ON THIS MATTER. EACH TIME A YOUNG GIRL GIVES MY HUSBAND A CELL NUMBER HE GIVES IT TO ME AND TELLS ME TO TRY TO FIND OUT WHO THE PARENTS ARE IN HOPES THAT WE CAN STOP MAYBE ONE YOUNG TEENAGE GIRL OF GIVING OUT HER NUMBER TO THE WRONG PERSON AND THIS CHILD SOMEDAY BEING HARMED. I CONTACTED ONE MOTHER HERE IN EMPORIA IN REGARDS TO ONE OF THESE YOUNG GIRLS AND THE MOTHERS RESPONSE TO ME WAS.." OH YOU KNOW HOW YOUNG TEENAGE GIRLS ARE, IT WAS PROBABLY ALL IN FUN, I TRUST MY DAUGHTER'...PLEASE....WHAT IF IT HADNT BEEN MY HUSBAND THAT ONE OF THESE GIRLS HAD APPROACHED IN THIS MANNER AND IT HAD BEEN SOME PERVERT INSTEAD ? WHAT IF THE NEXT MAN TAKES HER UP ON THIS OPPORTUNITY? WHAT ABOUT THE MEN THAT BELIEVE THESE YOUNG GIRLS WHEN THEY CLAIM THEY ARE 18 YET ONLY 13-16 YRS OLD.( THE MAKEUP AND CLOTHING SOME OF THEM WEAR MAKE THEM LOOK TO BE 18) I FREQUENT A LOCAL BAR HERE IN TOWN WHERE I AM APPALLED AT THE YOUNG 14-16 YR OLD FEMALES DANCING WITH MEN ADULTS WEARING SKIMPY CLOTHING BARELY COVERING ANYTHING. UNTIL SOME PARENTS OPEN THERE EYES TO EXACTLY WHAT THEIR YOUNG CHILDREN ARE DOING, OR AT LEAST CARING ABOUT WHAT THEIR DOING....THIS PROBLEM IS NEVER GOING TO STOP. MY POINT IS THIS.....PLEASE DONT ASSUME THAT EVERY MALE THAT IS ACCUSED OF SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS ALWAYS THE GUILTY ONE! OPEN YOUR EYES TO ALL OF THE MEN THAT ARE CONVICTED OF THESE CRIMES BECAUSE A LITTLE 13-16 YR OLD IS CLAIMING TO BE 18 AND IN ALOT OF CASES SHOWS A FAKE ID TO TO ACKNOWLEDGE HER CLAIM.

BE AWARE OF WHAT YOUR CHILD IS DOING, IM WRITING THIS IN HOPES THAT MAYBE NEXT TIME ONE MOM HERE IN EMPORIA GETS A CALL FROM SOMEONE CLAIMING YOUR DAUGHTER IS TRYING TO PICK UP ON AN ADULT MALE THAT MAYBE THE RESPONSE WON'T BE SUCH AS THE ONE I WAS GIVEN RECENTLY....YOU MAY TRUST YOUR DAUGHTER AND YOU MAY THINK SHES JUST BEING A TEENAGER BUT HEY....THATS USUALLY A WARNING SIGN WHEN SOMEONE TELLS YOU OF THEIR WRONG DOING....OPEN YOUR EYES AND LETS TRY TO STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING IN OUR TOWN.

I AM NOT DEFENDING "DARIN" IN NO SUCH MANNER. IF HE KNEW THE GIRL WAS ONLY 15, SHAME ON HIM...SHAME SHAME SHAME. I AM ONLY REMARKING ON THINGS THAT I HAVE HAVE PERSONALLY WITNESSED AND THAT NOT ALWAYS THE ADULT MALE IS TO BLAME. WHEN AN ADULT MALE IS PRESENTED WITH A "FAKE ID" OR IS TOLD THE BY THE FEMALE SHE IS 18...THEN WHEN DOES IT BECOME A CRIME? USUALLY WHEN THE RELATIONSHIP IS CALLED TO AN END BY THE MALE SUBJECT AND THE YOUNG FEMALE DECIDES ITS TIME TO GET EVEN BECAUSE SHE HAS HAD HER FELLINGS HURT. THEN HER TRUE AGE COMES OUT.

Hey Hartford there are only two people that know what happened and you aren't one of them please stop your stupid rumors! This CHILD is not on trial you don't know JACK.... It wasn't a relationship 14 year old child 24 year old man. GET IT Maybe he was stalking her you dont know keep your rumors to yourself he'll have his day in court. It amazes me how many people think they know things.

inaweoftheblindness, I have to agree. No one here is really defending the man in this situation, as none of us knows what happened. I validate your point as I mentioned in an earlier post the same things. Parents seem to think THEIR children are angels. Nothing is ever their fault, they are just children, right? Except these angelic children grow up with this belief, and well into adulthood they are never accountable for anything. Children at a young age know right from wrong. They should know that they are responsible for their actions. What is wrong with teaching children that some actions are irresponsible. When you have the sex talk with your kids, tell them what is appropriate behavior and what is not. Flirting with older men, is innappropriate.
Funny thing is, most of them already know this, but do it anyway. The parents response is that they are kids, the men are adults. Whether or not the man actually know that they are underage (kids lie, often) is not the parents concern, they don't make their children take responsibility for their actions.
All people should be responsible for what they do.
