like I said;
FYI
7 owners of businesses who were against this ban couldn't vote because they live in the county.
Add to them the 6 smoking customers in an unamed bar who told me last week there were not registered.
Add to that the 26 in another bar last night who said they were against the ban but didn't vote,
That would have spelled defeat on the smoking ban,>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> but it did not happen that way, so let's all rest for a couple of days and after the vote is finalized we can get back to putting Emporia back together.

I'll try this again:
Slater, I liked your posts better when they were intelligent and thought-provoking. After you lost your bar, and your posts became personal attacks, you lost the respect of a number of readers.

Cracky and Josie's have this love hate relationship. The comedic value that it provides watching those 2 trade jabs at each other has been priceless. Sorry you don't see it the same way ksnewsie....

ksnewsie;
Have you ever run a business?
Paid the property, sales, liquor, witholding taxes?
Before you say another word about my friend , Matt, I have certified copies from the courthouse on IRS tax Leins against a certain person on the pro-ban side that we would be happy to release if we wanted to get as nasty as you are right now. So it's time to hold back your personal attacks unless you want this all out in the open>

Mike some people really like to jab but can't take a punch.
This thing has gotten way out of hand, i"ll be so glad when/if it is ever over.
Enough damage has been done, when we don't need damage, but some will not just step back and let things be.

As a matter of fact, rbow, I have. Not really sure why that is relevant, but I have done all those things -- successfully, I might add.
My point being that I have enjoyed the intelligent and thought provoking posts offered by both sides of this issue. I do not care for the posts who, for example, imply that someone might be a prostitute because she has "a lot of boyfriends."

In response to "What is a Provisional Vote"? I worked yesterday in Precincts11,12,13 (combined) This was done
in the means of cutting cost plus trying to make it easier
on all This HAS been done before because of fewer voters, since it was not a Presidential election. First, a Provisional vote is a vote by someone who has moved recently, gotten married and last name changed etc.. In the precinct that I worked, we had 15 provisionals. Now the problem with these is that they can be "contested" (for reason "why" etc.) As an election worker, we are told to tell each person voting by provisional that their vote may or maynot count. They have registered BUT have forgotten to re-register at the time of the change.

good comment sandman,
we have at least 4 people who let us know that they had to vote provisional, because their registration was not up to date at the polling place when we personaly delivered their change of address, name change to the courthouse before the deadline . We are Not worried that their votes won't count as the staff at the clerks office has been nothing but helpful and courteous.

I would tell my provisional voters that by doing one they were completing two things, first, voting and the second it would
re-register the new information for them therefore hopefully make it easier for them the next time. As a "worker", we can only go by the information we are given in our book,, if that information is different then what is in the "book", a provisional makes it easy for us workers AND for the voter.

Now, last but not least! I am what some would call a
"country hick" or any other name you might what to use.
First, living in the country is my "choice"! Second, don't knock it if you haven't tried it!!!! Third, I am STILL asked to
"shop Emporia" and as I've said in the past, sincerely try to
do that. I also agree, we in the county SHOULD have been
able to vote concerning this issue. I do spend sales tax etc, to the city of Emporia. This ban DOES affect me each and every time I'm in the city limits. We "country hicks" do spend our time and money in Emporia.

ksnewsie--
I never "implied" anyone was a prostitute. I'm not sure you know what I'm (or yourself, for that matter) talking about. Warcraft is a video game, and I was implying not that crackinsack is a prostitute, but rather a video-game nerd (no offense to other video game nerds, like myself).
If I was "implying" that crackinsack was a prostitute, then I would have said something along the lines of... "Hey crack, you're a prostitute." Believe me, I am not afraid to call an apple red. I think you are making a huge deal out of something that is most definitely not, unless your comment was a personal attack disguised as wrong information.
Just remember this, ksnewsie...

I would simply like to say that if you think your civil liberties are being trampled on by the adoption of this ban, then I would strongly encourage those who voted against the smoking ban (based on your rationale that it impedes with your civil liberties) to quickly adopt an amendment that allows same sex marriages in Emporia. After all, same-sex marriage is a civil liberty, too. That'll get back at those non-smokers...

Robert,
It looks like all the protectors of civil liberties have ceased commenting, now that you brought up same-sex marriage. I guess they are only in favor of protecting certain civil liberties?

Actually, that's a good idea. Emporia Open for Business and all the protectors of civil liberties should jump on this one. More marriages = more wedding parties in bars and restaurants, more business for hotels, more business for flower shops, gift stores; more business for Emporia! Thanks for coming up with such a brilliant idea, YY4U! How about it, EOB and those interested in protecting everyone's civil liberties? What's good for business is good for Emporia!

If the two of you have an agenda together and want to present it to the city commission
for consideration,
go for it. Get it on the ballot for a vote. If it passes
you can live happily ever after

Well today's the day. One way or the other this will be resolved. I wish the announcement of the final results would be before the afternoon hours so the gazette could have it in todays paper. Doesn't look like that will happen though. Tonight at midnight every business owner and their customers will still have their rights removed or still be free to choose. One way or another I'm ready for it to be over.
Thanks to all who voted, and a pox on those who didn't.
