JohnDoe;
while I agree with you that if CAE would have gone after restaurants only, they probably would have gotten what they wanted. But after a year or two, they would have come back to bars and other businesses. A BAN IS A BAN, regardless. These nannies need to be stopped at the front door, not on their way out the back porch.

you said
"Now the name “Noose” has negative connotations and I don’t really feel comfortable supporting that."
You believe that businesses that allow smoking are killing you or at least harming you but you continue to support them but you won't support a nonsmoking bar because "the name “Noose” has negative connotations"? Can you see the flaws in your logic here?

Please vote NO. Thank you.

If your reaction to shs is as bad as you say then it seems logical that you could look past a bars name and go their if you want to go to a bar without the smoke. Myself and others have presented a simple solution to your problem(and the Noose has provided you with another choice) and you have rejected it. It is now becoming more clear why you have rejected it. I feel sorry for you (when I'm not pulling my hair out trying to follow your "logic").

Please vote NO. Thank you.

Perhaps another reason people assume that you smoke crack(or something similar) is your memory is not very good. I don't smoke or go to bars (I used to do both). I'm not trying to control anyone. I make suggestions that people can either accept or reject, that is absolutely not trying to control anyone. Using the governments to exact your revenge against smokers that annoy you, now that is control. Again your logic has failed.

Don't know if you've seen this or not, but here is the "child daycare" bill proposed by Jim Barnett. From what I understand, he got this to pass the Senate, then changed it "a little" before it got to the house. Here's the link:

crack you posted,
do you really think smoking in a drive-thru is courteous to the worker at the window? It just seems like it would be easier to wait…
What if ALL business decided to allow smoking? (grocery stores, pharmacies, day cares, etc) Do you think that would be right? If not, where would you draw the line?
Hey, if I am in a drive thru in my (personally owned vehicle) and I happen to have a cigarette in my hand when I pay for my order and then pick up my order and smoke leaves my vehicle and enters the restaurant. How can I be held accountable? Yesterday you suggested I wait, why I am not breaking any laws. If we as smokers give an inch your group will take a mile. (Now you don't want me to smoke in my own vehicle.)
If All businesses allowed smoking I think you would need to get an allergy shot. As I had stated before you moron, If that is how the private business owner wants to operate his/her business then let them run their business that way, if you don't like it open up your own business.

I can't believe I spend so much time thinking about this issur & reading these posts. (It's kind like watching Jerry Springer, you can't believe the stupid things people say but ya can't wait to see who says what next). Finally, after giving it A LOT of thought & consideration I have come up with the perfect, win/win solution!!!! (I call it my "Aha moment"). Non-smokers don't want to smell stinky old SHS but the smokers want a place where they can congergate & enjoy themselves without being made to feel like a crimial for being adicted to a legal substance. My solution....get ready for this....have just a few business that cater to the stinky old smokers and ban it from everywhere else!!!! The owner of the business decides whether he wants his customers to smoke & the CUSTOMERS decide whether they want to be exposed to SHS. Motels etc...could have both smoking & non-smoking floors at the descration of the owner & once again the CUSTOMERS can decide if they want to stay there. I CAN'T BELIEVE no one has thought of this simple solution before.....OH WAIT, I guess it's kinda like......the way it already is! If it ain't broke, don't fix it. For the people who don't want to be exposed to 2nd hand smoke, I think one of my Daddy's sayings would apply. "If you'd been home sittin' on chair it (exposure to SHS in this case) wouldn't have happened." Seems like some people, not mentioning any names, would b###h if you hung them with a new "Noose".

Great post ksgram. That is what I've been saying but some peole just don't get commonsense. My grandfather used to say the same thing as your father. The anti-freedom folks hate being told to stay home but that's not really what we're saying since most places are already smoke free.

It is like Jerry Springer. When I used to watch Springer, I was pretty convinced that the people on there were actors because nobody could be that............ silly........ in real life but after being on these forums for a while now I find out that those kind of people really do exist and when I found out I died a little inside. Sad sad sad.

Please someone, answer me....
If I vote YES...am I voting to UPHOLD the indoor smoking ordinance...or am I Voting YES to REPEAL the ordinance?

This may sound stupid, but I believe that's why so many things we vote for may not go the way we want them to...If they need to change anything, its the wording on our ballots.

So many of you have strong opinions on the smoking ban..but, my fear is that non of it matters any more..because in the end..the Government will make the final "decision" on whether or not we can smoke anywhere.

And, as of today, if you can afford to smoke "congratulations!"...because, with the economy going south, and the price of cigarettes, you may have to make the choice between food or cigarettes someday...ooops...if you choose to quit cigarettes..then you might gain too much weight, and you will be banned from eating french fries at McDonalds.

I'm a non smoker, but, in my opinion..
if a business owner, wants to allow smoking in his/her establishment..then, I can make the decision whether or not I want to go into the business.

Unfortunately, as we are debating this issue for our community...our Federal Government is deciding on how they can take our decision making away from us, for just about everything.

To be honest...I would rather go into a business that allows smoking, than one that has poor customer service..or allows people to carry on long, loud, cell phone conversations while they are eating, drinking or shopping.
Where does it stop????

So....Yes or No?..I want to vote to repeal the ordinance!!!!
Thank you....

METHUSLA..Are you out there?...:-)

-rbow...Thank you...and, I apologize, but I stopped reading the forums, about the smoking ban, a few months ago, because, it became difficult to follow, and, I've made up my mind..and, for my own reasons.

The topic is important, but, there are so many threads, and posts on the forum..and some very very long posts.

I know what I want...and, I know why I want to vote for it...I just have problems with the way the wording is on ballots, and not just for this issue..Too many times I have voted YES..thinking I was voting "for" something..and, ended up finding out I needed to vote NO.
Call me stupid.(please don't)...but, I will bet you there are a lot of people that secretly agree with me, but don't want to admit it.

-77flint...Give it up already? Not nice..I have the right to ask questions....That's what this crap is all about..People wanting to take away our rights...not allow us to ask questions, or talk about issues..unless we agree with you.

I am not calling you stupid by any means. I have been fighting this ban since it was first introduced, and I knew the question on the ballot required a NO VOTE to do away the the ban,
However when I voted early, after reading the questions, I almost voted Yes. Thank God, the machines prompt you to re-read your votes. I recomend voting early, it is so easy>
Courthouse, 1st floor, no long lines, 2-3 minutes and you are done.
VOTE EARLY
VOTE NO

Renegade;

If I am not mistaken the ballot for the smoking ban reads something like,
Do you the citizens of Emporia wish/want the City of Emporia to adopt the proposed, revised smoking ban ordinance as proposed.

[ ] YES

[ ] NO

I believe this is the wording, but I don't remember for sure. If it is you will need to check the NO box to vote against the smoking ban ! Perhaps rbow, josiesbar , or anyone of the EOB advocates know for sure. Anyway when I voted early, awhile back that is basically the way I remember the wording !

rbow,
If you want me to stoop to your level, I can try. Two can play at this game. Here goes:

Steve, you are every bit as ignorant as you are revolting and your hatred towards your fellow citizens disgusts me. You are willing to use money that could have gone to your grandkids to fight a ban that would clearly benefit them. Apparently, you want to preserve their chances of being exposed to SHS against their will in hopes that you'll be able to profit off of it. Your unashamed selfishness and insatiable greed is matched only by your offensively putrid body odor. You make asinine assumptions and wild accusations based on no logic whatsoever.
Come April 7th, you will realize that you have wasted your time and money while severing many ties within the community. Do you really think the things you post on here give you a good reputation? When your business goes under, you won’t be able to blame the smoking ban because you have done more damage to your own name and livelihood than the smoking ban could ever do. Nobody wants to patronize an intolerant fool; you have brought it upon yourself.

Vote YES and put an end to the ignorance, intolerance, greed, and hate.
