"Wrong Steve, I travel frequently I just don't chew so I do not really pay attention to it, but I have seen others getting away with chewing, would never happen with a cigarette though, why is that?"
just because they get away with it DOES NOT mean it is not banned! YOUR argument is Flawed AND you didnt answer steves question.
Why do you feel the need to answer a question with a question? Ah, because you don't have an answer?

LGO,
Calm down! I understand that goodoleboy is under your skin from the hunting thread--you guys have had quite the skirmish over there. But you shouldn't chase him around the threads attacking his every move--it paints you as the one who feels the need to tell people how it has to be. If I recall, that's what you didn't like about your perception of him. I don't always agree with his point of view either, but I have found that he is civil when I am civil. You have been rather hostile to other posters (including me)when they chimed in on forums that are open to all. Lots of people read through these whether they post or not, and I have to say that from a bystander's perception, you are quickly losing credibility because of your hostility. It's okay to be irritated, just don't let it dominate your every thought and move. Have a happy Christmas week!!

Appreciate the fact that even though we do not see eye to eye to we can agree to disagree and debate topics in a civil manner. Thumbs up to you sir! I will reply to your post, just a little busy at the moment with friends and family in town hehe.

You elect someone to state office & they spend over 100 days in session and what comes out of it? Sometimes something as important as designating a state frog. Don't laugh it has happened. Something has to be in the water in Topeka!
You elect a city commissioner and the following has happened:
Tyson partial shutdown.
Lowes fiasco
City employees leaving at alarming rate.
City debt is at What?
New city manager hired but withdraws on day he is to start.
Then you hire your 2nd pick
You hike water, sewer and trash rates
Taxes are highest in history.
And what does your city commission do?
Pass a ban on smoking on private property.
Makes you think there might be something in our water.

Unfortunately it seems the majority in this country want more and bigger government. When I look at the governments operations I don't understand why they feel this way. Hopefully folks around here don't feel that big government is the answer and they will vote this intrusive ban out.
As far as Kessler goes I don't know to much about the dude but his vote for the ban is big enough of a strike against him for me. I will not be voting for him.

A big agreement there!
When Any government official who votes to take away ANY OF MY RIGHTS, just so a few won't be incovenienced they should and must not be allowed to stay in office. Kessler, Agler, and Johnson were wrong, they knew they were wrong and they stuck it to us. The first two I thought knew better, that's why it smells to me. Johnson, she's just sad! Much like CAE they couldn't or wouldn't fathom the backlash their votes have caused.

What backlash? A few misguided people is hardly a backlash.

Irish;
Judging by the phone calls(over100) to me and 400 signatures so far I would say backlash. & most were from non-smokers who are really p--sed off. It might not be a majority, but we will find out in April when the votes are counted.
By the way there are more than a few non-smoking business owners who have petitions to sign, but wish to remain un-named because of threats of boycotts from the CAE group. But they know their customers and who to ask. Come on people, if you are so sure the ban will stand after a VOTE OF THE PEOPLE , why the threats? We will also ask commissioners Kessler, Agler, and Johnson to sign the petitions as they publicly stated, on the record that they though this should be brought to a vote of the people.

I take back part of the above. I don't think that commissioner Johnson said this should come to a vote. She knows what is best for Emporia, & the right of choice isn't included.

Steve,
My grandmother asked me if you all are going to be canvassing door-to-door with the petition. She has never smoked & detests the odor, but she recognizes as well that this is one step in a much bigger scheme--probably the socialized medicine plan. I told her if nothing else we would call that number and see if someone can bring it by her house. I was in on Friday to sign, but I missed you as well as I was in before the bar even opened for business.

oh4theluvof;
My bar will be closed the next two days but
after Christmas I will post a couple of other #'s besides Matts where anyone can call and we'll come to the home with the petition. We also plan to have rides available on election day for those that need them. If your grandmother wants to sign before Christmas she can call Matt & he will try to get one ASAP. He is running around like a crazyman, what a dedicated man. Thanks Matt.

Hey Steve,
I will offer my services to help with rides to the polls in April, seeing I will not be allowed to vote on this issue. Its a shame that I cant vote on this, even though all my money is spent within Emporia City limits.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Thanks Brooke, you're on. I'll pay for the gas.
oh4theluvof: You can call Matt's # 343-2929 after 8:00 P.M.
or The Town Royal@ 343-1232 after 1:00 P.M. and leave a message with my employees and we'll be happy to swing by anyones home with a petition to sign. With our limited time frame it would be hard to go door to door in every neihborhood so we think the phone #'s idea is the best way to go for now. Thanks to all who have called already and expressed their feelings on this taking away of our rights law. It really gives me faith in my fellow Emporians.

As posted on another thread;
Mr. Kessler, if enough signatures are collected the put the smoking-ban question on the April ballot, would you change the date of it's taking effect to the day after the vote?
That would seem to be a reasonable request and a truly democratic way of government working for all the citizens.
