Anniversary: Wheeler
Ralph and Evora Wheeler will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Guesthouse Inn.
The couple were married Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 1949, at the home of the Rev. Conrad and Kate Vandervelde. He was pastor of the Sardis Congregational Church.
The Wheelers’ children are Steve and Barbara White of Juneau, Alaska; Kenneth and Leigh Wheeler of Shawnee and John and Ruth Wheeler and Tomas and Becky Wheeler of Emporia.
Their grandchildren are Jenika, Ashley, Emma and Jacob Wheeler of Emporia; Samantha, Erika and Julia Wheeler of Shawnee; Heather Brakes and Edra Lewis of Juneau, Alaska; Samuel Lewis of Portland, Ore.; and Sarah Jordan of Stillwater, Oka. Great-granddaughters are Karli and Marissa Brakes and Danielle and Kyelisa Graham of Juneau, Alaska.
Ralph Wheeler farmed, owned and operated a farm-to-market milk route, worked at Didde-Glaser Manufacturing and retired after 22 years of service with the City of Emporia. Evora Wheeler’s working career included secretary at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and the Lyon County Extension Office, staff vice president of the Emporia Chamber of Commerce, realtor with Jim Pickert Real Estate, as well as cashiering at Foodtown, A&P and Reeble supermarkets. She has been a community volunteer and involved with community activities for more than 60 years.
The Wheelers are active members of the First Congregational Church.
They suggest casual dress and “please, no gifts.”
