Couples: May 3, 2008

Engagement: Swingle and Resch

Chauncey and Junell Swingle of Zenda and James and Ruthann Resch of Emporia announce the engagement of their children, Megan Elizabeth Swingle and Thomas Robert Resch. Grandmother of the bride-elect is Adeline Green of Zenda.
Swingle graduated from Kingman High School, attended Emporia State University and earned a doctoral degree in pharmacy from The University of Kansas in 2007. She is currently a pharmacy practice resident at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Resch graduated from Emporia High School and Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. He will graduate this month with a medical doctor degree from The University of Kansas, after which he will begin his residency in general surgery at the University of Kansas-Wichita.
The couple plan to marry June 7, 2008, at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church in Willowdale.

Engagement: Edie and Johnson

Jack and Jolene Edie of Emporia and Jim and Jayne Johnson of Americus announce the engagement of their children, Melissa Lynn Edie and Jayson Scott Johnson, both of Emporia.
The couple met in seventh-grade science class and went to every dance together while attending Emporia High School. The started dating their junior year. Both graduated from EHS.
Edie plans to graduate this month from Emporia State University witht a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. She plans to attend graduate school beginning in the fall.
Johnson works at the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
The couple plan to marry June 21, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Emporia.

Engagement: McDonald and Edmunds

Rich and Dot McDonald of Emporia and Randy and Linda Edmunds of Allen announce the engagement of their children, Stacey McDonald and Jake Edmunds, both of Emporia.
McDonald graduated from Emporia High School and Flint Hills Technical College with a CNA degree. Edmunds graduated from Northern Heights High School and Flint Hills Technical College with an industrial maintenance degree.
Edmunds works for Flinthills Towing driving a wrecker. Workers at the Turnpike toll plaza set the couple up on a blind date.
The couple will be married Oct. 18, 2008, at Peter Pan Park.

Engagement: Snyder and Pendlay

The engagement of Mariah Dawn Snyder and Rex Alan Pendlay, both of Emporia, is announced by the couple and by Snyder’s parents, James Snyder and Susan Riley of Emporia. She also is the stepdaughter of Jerry Gonzales of Canton, Mich.
Pendlay is the son of Roy and Donna Pendlay of Wichita and Gail Nevitt of Emporia.
The bride graduated from Emporia State University and works for Coldwell Banker and Alltel.
The groom, who graduated from Emporia High School, works at Sauder Custom Fabrication.
The couple met while working part-time in high school at Rollers. He was a hockey coach and Mariah worked at the counter. They have dated for 11 years.
The wedding will be on Oct. 4, 2008, in Emporia.

Engagement: Harris and Paul

Dennis and Cindy Paul announce the engagement of their son, David Andrew Paul of Shawnee, to Courtney Lynn Harris of Shawnee, daughter of Bill and Diana Harris of Pratt.
Harris graduated from Pratt High School in 2002 and The University of Kansas in 2006. She is a kindergarten teacher in Eudora. She is the granddaughter of the lae Richard and Dorris Harris of Pratt and the late Madeline Lambert of Stockton.
Paul graduated from Emporia High School in 2000 and The University of Kansas in 2005. He is a member of the Kansas National Guard. He is the grandson of the late Troy and Waneta Bowman of Emporia and the late Harry and Virginia Paul of Ocean City, Md.
The couple plan to marry July 19, 2008, at the Loose Park Rose Garden on the Plaza in Kansas City, Mo.

Engagement: Gilligan and Engle

John and Bev Gilligan of Olpe, Doug and Sheila Foster of Hartford and Eddie Engle of Reece announce the engagment of their children, Lori Gilligan and Bryan Engle, both of Emporia.
Gilligan graduated from Olpe High School and Flint Hills Technical College. She works for Emporia Public Schools.
Engle graduated from Hartford High School and works for EVCO Wholesale Foods.
The couple plan to marry June 14, 2008.
