Wedding: Telfer and Hargis
Joni Telfer and Bradley Hargis were married May 26, 2007, at the West Side Baptist Church. The Rev. Bill Hargis, father of the bridegroom, officiated at the afternoon ceremony.
The matron of honor was Jamie VanSickle, sister of the bride. The best man was Steve Hargis, brother of the bridegroom. The bride’s other attendants were Jenny Kiser and Jana Ortega, sisters of the bride, Leannah Burch and Jennifer Sanders. The junior bridesmaids were Cortney Kiser, Madelynne VanSickle and Adelynn Ortega. The groomsmen were Matthew Breeden, Thomas Dawsey, Matthew Wiese and Jon Sanders.
Flower girls were Anna VanSickle and Kayleigh Kiser and ring bearers were Caden Hargis and Andrew Kiser. Candlelighters were Rebecca Ortega and Bethany Ortega. Travis Mumma and Joseph Meador were the ushers. The wedding musicians were David Giles, pianist; and Jennifer Sanders and Kristen Hargis, singers. Mark Meador was the reader. The guestbook attendant was Kristen Hargis, sister of the bridegroom. The wedding coordinator was Deborah Storrer.
The wedding reception was at the church. Gift attendants and cake servers were Suzy Noll, Suzanne Crawford, Ashlee Hunt and Nikki Meador. Susie Rogers was the disc jockey. The rehearsal dinner was at Montana Mike’s.
The couple took a honeymoon trip to Lake Tahoe in Nevada.
The bride graduated from Baptist Bible College with a degree in music education. She works at Adecco Staffing and teaches piano.
The bridegroom graduated from Baptist Bible College with a bachelor’s degree in pastoral studies and master’s degrees in divinity and biblical counseling. He works at United American Insurance Company.
She is the daughter of Jim and Janet Telfer of Emporia.
He is the son of Bill and Cindy Hargis of Trenton, Ohio.
Grandparents are Jewell and Geneva Hargis of Ohio and James and Vivian Farley of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Engagement: Murphy and Luthi
Charles and Barbara Murphy of Manhattan announce the engagement of their daughter, Sheila Murphy, to John Luthi, son of former Madison resident Jeff and Peg Luthi of Olathe.
Murphy graduated from Manhattan High School and Kansas State University with a master’s degree in accounting. She works for KPMG Accounting.
Luthi graduated from Olathe East High School and Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in construction science and management. He works for Burns and McDonnell Engineering.
She is the granddaughter of Pauline Murphy of Abilene. He is the grandson of Vivian Luthi of Madison and Harold Blinn of Fulton, Mo.
The couple plan to marry Sept. 29, 2007.
Engagement: Ashton and Ziegler
Emily Nicole Ashton of Topeka and Cody Lee Ziegler of Emporia announce their engagement.
Ashton graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in family studies and human services. She is in the marriage and family therapy graduate program at KSU. She also is an academic advisor at KSU.
Ziegler attends Kansas State University where he is studying family studies and human services. He plans to graduate in December. He is the youth director at the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.
She is the daughter of Jim and Kyle Ashton of Topeka.
He is the son of Brenda Cook of Columbia, Mo., and Stanley and Denise Ziegler of Emporia.
The couple plan to marry Dec. 29, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Manhattan.
Wedding: Williams and Smiley
Carys Williams and Bryon Smiley were married May 26, 2007, at Lake Kahola. The honorable retired judge Robert Morton officiated at the afternoon ceremony.
The maid of honor was Scarlett Schmitt. The best man was Brett Smiley, brother of the bridegroom. The bride’s other attendants were Chiannon Williams, Celyn Williams and Rhosalyn Williams, sisters of the bride, and Katie Cimorelli. The groomsmen were Eric Luby, Scott Smiley, Alex Turpitt and Tanner Hijem.
The wedding reception was at Lake Kahola, where the couple met, and where Bryon Smiley proposed. His great-grandfather, Max Smiley, built one of the original cabins in 1943. Some of the guests, relatives and friends of the bride, came from Great Britain.
The rehearsal dinner was at Bruff’s Bar and Grill.
The couple took a honeymoon trip to Seaside, Fla., and live in Emporia.
The bride attends Emporia State University, where she is studying business administration. She works at Emporia Floral.
The bridegroom graduated from KOA Technical School with a degree in painting technology. He works for Mitchell-Markowitz Construction.
She is the daughter of Gareth and Nan Williams of Tallahassee, Fla.
He is the son of Barnie and Willie Smiley of Emporia.
Grandparents are Mary Smiley of Emporia and Maurice and Cellie Klee of Council Grove.
Engagement: Dempewolf and Haag
Rick and Lynette Ritter and Dick and Becky Dempewolf of Colby announce the engagement of their daughter, Amber Natori Dempewolf, to Cory Michael Haag, son of Harry and Barb Haag of Olpe.
Dempewolf graduated from Colby High School and the University of Kansas with a doctorate degree in pharmacy. She is the managing pharmacist at Candlewood Medicine Shoppe in Emporia.
Haag graduated from Olpe High School and Emporia State University with a degree in business. He is a property manager in Emporia.
The couple plan to marry Nov. 3, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church in Emporia.
Wedding: Melichar and Smith
Ashley Lorene Melichar and Matthew Ryan Smith were married June 9, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The Rev. Darren Henson officiated at the afternoon wedding.
The maid of honor was Milki Herbert. The best men were Ben Panos and Dusty Eils. The bride’s other attendants were Kristen Kuhn, Lindsey Melichar and Hannah Melichar. The groomsmen were Adam Melichar and Anthony Cannata. The flower girls were Chloe, Isabelle and Gabriella Cannata and Rylee Melichar. Brock Dain was the ring bearer.
Candlelighters were Amanda and Stacey Smith. Ushers were Jon Wiemers, Todd Dain, Brad Griffin and Tyler Melichar. The wedding musicians were Fred Gilligan and Mindy Sadowski. Gene Cannata and David Smith were the readers. Abbey Kessler and Alli Basore were the guestbook attendants.
The wedding reception was at Sacred Heart Parish Hall. Attendants were Kim Nifong and Kellie Carlson. The rehearsal dinner was at the Parish Hall.
The couple took a honeymoon trip to Riviera Maya, Mexico, and live in Emporia.
She is the daughter of Gene and Julie Cannata of Pratt and Mike and Kim Melichar of Wichita.
He is the son of David and Pam Smith of Lenexa.
Grandparents are Will and Penny Loibl and Joe and Sunny Melichar of Wichita; Bonnie Smith of Strawberry, Ark., and Rita Long of Linn, Ark.

Allyssa Allain and Joshua J. Smith announce their engagement.
Allain attended Texas Military Institute and graduated from Texas State University. She works in the film industry.
Smith graduated from Emporia High School and attended Emporia State University for two years. He, too, works in the film industry.
The couple met while working on the film, “Kablucy,” starring Lisa Kudrow.
She is the daughter of James and Susan Allain of San Antonio.
He is the son of Kirby C. and Georgeann Smith of Emporia.
The couple plan to marry in July 2008 in Austin.
