Anniversary: Thurston
James and JoAnn Buchman Thurston of Burdick will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Elmdale United Methodist Church in Elmdale. Hosts will be their children and grandchildren. Their children and spouses are Lou and Lori Thurston of Hillsboro, Kirk and Angela Thurston of Harper, Deb and Terry Scott of Allen, Texas, and Marty Thurston and Wayne Criger of Plano, Texas. There are seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. After the reception, a dinner for the immediate family will be held at the Grand Central Hotel in Cottonwood Falls.
JoAnn Buchman and James Thurston were married Nov. 24, 1957, at Elmdale United Methodist Church.
The couple owned and operated oilfield tank and fitting manufacturing companies in Kansas and Texas. JoAnn Thurston later retired as a medical transcriptionist with the Texas State Hospital system.
