Anniversary: Cooper

Jim and Peggy Cooper will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open reception from 2 pm to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Prairie Coffee Company on Main Street in Cottonwood Falls.
Hosts will be their children, J.E. and Vicky Cooper of rural Saffordville, Clay and Connie Cooper of rural Cottonwood Falls and Bill and Vickie Cooper-Timm of Ames, Iowa; and grandchildren, Lacey Cooper of Rantoul and Chris Cooper of Tulsa, Okla.
Peggy Jones and Jim Cooper were married the evening of March 8, 1957, at the Emporia home of the Rev. Conrade Vandervelde.
Jim Cooper worked for the Anderson Cattle Company and Interstate Brands Bakery in Emporia . Peggy Cooper worked at Hallmark Cards and Iowa Beef Processors and was an office assistant at S&S Oil and Propane, all in Emporia. 
They have retired and enjoy spending time with their family and horses.

Anniversary: DeLong

Don and Mary Lou DeLong of rural Emporia will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house reception from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the courtyard of the Best Western Hospitality House, 3201 W. Highway 50. Hosts will be their sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Nanette DeLong, David DeLong, Dale and Bobbi DeLong and Darryl and Brelana DeLong.
The couple request no gifts.

Anniversary: Schaefer

Larry G. and Beverly L. Schaefer of Emporia will be the guests of honor at a family dinner at the Grand Central Hotel in Cottonwood Falls given to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Hosts will be their children, Dan and Connie Coble and John and Carol Schaefer of Emporia.
They have three grandchildren, Lisa Smallwood of Tulsa, Okla., Andrea Bazan of Lancaster, Texas and Chase Coble of Emporia; and one great-grandsons, Schaefer McKee Smallwood of Tulsa, Okla., born Jan. 18, 2007.
Bevery L. Browning and Larry G. Schaefer were married March 10, 1957, at the Emporia home of the bride’s family.
Larry Schaefer worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 36 years before he retired.
Beverly Schaefer worked in the district court office at the Lyon County Courthouse for 26 years before she retired.

Anniversary: Clifton

Robert Charles and Donna Ruth Clifton of Emporia celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary today.
Donna Ruth Trickel and Robert Charles Clifton were married March 5, 1942, at the Canteen Center in Douglas, Ariz. She was the first war bride of Douglas, Ariz.
The have two children, Peggy Munson of Mesquite, Texas, and Kenneth Clifton of Dayton, Ohio. They have five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Robert Clifton was in the U.S. Army for five and one-half years, including two years in the Pacific Theater. He worked 23 years for Metropolitan Life and was the activity bus driver for USD 253 for 15 years. He continues to be a school crossing guard.
Donna Clifton worked 15 years with WestAmerica Securities and seven years with Internal Medicine.

Anniversary: Tabares

Antonio “Tony” and Carmen Tabares will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion. Hosts will be their children, Tony P. and Carla Tabares, James and Ann Tabares, Edward and Ginger Tabares, Arthur and Lori Tabares, Jeffrey Tabares and Veronica Granado. Their other two children died earlier — Robert Tabares on July 13, 1993, and Patricia Mendoza on May 22, 1999.
The honored couple’s grandchildren are Travis and Kristina Tabares, Christopher Tabares , Whitney Tabares, Lucas Tabares, Vincent Tabares, Mackenzie Tabares, Michael Mendoza, Diana Mendoza, Russ and Anjenette Tabares Heins, Donnie Tabares, Antonio “Tony” and Samantha Tabares, Jamie and Amber Tabares, Marvin and Erica Tabares Steinfort, Aaron Tabares, Natalie Tabares, Aukuso and Melissa Granado Paolo, Patrick Granado, Edward Granado, Julie Wright, Gabriel Granado, Robert Granado, Staci Tabares, Brian Tabares and Tyler Tabares.
Their great-grandchildren are Kayli Tabares, Jalynn Tabares, Taylor Heins, Peyton Heins, Braden Heins, Mason Tabares, Alexus Tabares, Genesia Paolo, Alanah Paolo, Mykaela Paolo, Breanna Granado, Antonio Wright and Rhianna Granado.
Carmen Torres and Antonio Tabares were married March 10, 1942.
Tony Tabares worked at IBP before he retired. He is an Air Force veteran of World War II. Carmen Tabares was a state employee at Emporia State University.
