Anniversary: Platt
Lawrence “Bud” and Thressa Platt will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with a family dinner in January.
Thressa Mauer and Lawrence “Bud” Platt were married Dec. 31, 1942, at the First Methodist Church in Topeka.
After he served in the Army during World War II, the couple farmed in the Errett community south of Gridley. She retired from 30 years in the food service department at USD 245. The Platts later moved to their farm south of Virgil, where they remain.
Their son and daughter-in-law are Lowell and Elaine Platt of Gridley; their daughter and son-in-law, Steve and Judy McCurry of Waverly. The Platts have four grandchildren, Laura Schultz and husband, Allen, of Waverly, Lance and Shani McCurry of Princeton, Eric and Karin Platt of Virgil and Brett and Ruth Platt of Plano, Texas. They have nine great-grandchildren.

Anniversary: Gardner
William and Cara Lee Gardner will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary on Jan. 3.
They were married Jan. 3, 1953, in St. Louis, Mo., while she was finishing nurse’s training and he was in the Air Force.
The Gardners have three sons: Mark Gardner of Emporia, Paul Gardner of Topeka and David Gardner of South Dakota. They have 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Anniversary: Lilly
Howard and LaVerna Lilly of Melvern celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Dec. 12. A card shower is requested for them, with cards to be sent to 4398 E. 325th St., Melvern, KS 66510.
LaVerna Lewis and Howard Lilly were married Dec. 12, 1942, at the First Methodist Church parsonage in Topeka.
Howard Lilly is a longtime farmer and cattleman. LaVerna Lilly is a longtime homemaker.
They have three daughters, Barbara Pierce of Burlington, Doug and Deanna Anderson of Scranton and Jody Lilly of Phoenix, Ariz. Their grandchildren are Rhonda Gilman and husband, David, and Renee Trimble and husband, Tony, of Burlington; Kelle Schankie and husband, Philip, of Madison; Lori Anderson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Heidi Anderson of Kansas City, Kan. Their great-grandchildren are Haley Gilman and Julia Gilman, Abby Trimble and Jack Trimble, all of Burlington; Kaleb Schankie, Kale Schankie and Kole Schankie of Madison; Sadie Anderson and Allenea Anderson of Kansas City, Kan.
