Anniversary: Finney
60 Years
William and Wilma Finney of rural Emporia will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the United Presbyterian Church in Americus. They request no gifts.
The Finneys have two children, Wilma Jeanne Dawes and her husband, J.D. Dawes, and Billy Finney and his wife, Carrie Finney of Emporia. Their grandchildren are Jason Dawes of Garden City and Mendy Ramos of Guymon, Okla., and seven great-grandchildren.
Wilma Pritchard and William Finney were married Aug. 31, 1947, at the bride’s parents’ home in Dunlap. They have been lifelong farmers and lived on their present farm 53 years.
They both have served as Elders of the United Presbyterian Church of Americus.
William Finney supplemented their income by working at the Santa Fe feed-yards and Groh’s Roofing.
Wilma Finney taught Sunday school, belonged to the R.F.D. Mixers unit and is a a member of the Rosean Social Club.
Anniversary: Meenen
Mike and Sarah Meenen of Americus will observe their 25th wedding anniversary Tuesday with a small celebration with friends and family. They have two children, Mark Meenen of Enid, Okla., and Rachel Meenen, a student at Kansas State University.
The Meenens were married Aug. 28, 1982, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Linn.
They have owned and operated Meenen Transmission and Auto Service for the past 14 years.
Anniversary: Wygles
60 Years
Ralph William and Peggy Orine Wygle, ESU football fans, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary by attending the Hornet season opener in Gunnison, Colo., and touring Crested Butte.
Peggy Orine Kaub and Ralph William Wygle were married Aug. 31, 1947, in Hamilton. Both graduated from Emporia State University.
The Wygles have two daughters, Janice Jaggard and Deborah Brooks, two grandchildren, Rebecca Smith and Andrew Brooks, and two great-grandchildren, Talia and Garrison Smith, all of Emporia.
Anniversary: Verlin
50 Years
Former Emporians Edward and Alta Verlin of Valley Center celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 25 at Grace United Methodist Church.
Hosts were their daughter and son-in-law and granddaughter, David and Angela Uttinger and Courtney Uttinger. Other members of the family and friends assisted the hosts.
Alta Brockelman and Edward Verlin were married Aug. 25, 1957, in Neosho Rapids.
The family requested no gifts, but said, “Your friendship and memories are their cherished gift; they respectfully request no other.”
