Anniversary: Evans
Joe and Arlene Evans of Cottonwood Falls will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at St. Anthony’s Hall in Strong City. Hosts will be their children, Debby Baker of Roxbury and Cindy Cooper and Eddie Evans of Cottonwood Falls. They have nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Arlene Makovec and Joe Evans were married Aug. 24, 1957, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Strong City. After 20 years of service in the Army, the Evanses moved to Cottonwood Falls in 1973. They have owned and operated Joe’s Upholstery for the last 33 years.
The couple request no gifts.
“Your presence is gift enough,” they said.
Wedding: Fitzmaurice and Dreasher
Stephanie Jo Fitzmaurice and Matthew Edward Dreasher were married July 21, 2007, at Peter Pan Park.
The bride graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She works for the Emporia Recreation Commission.
The bridegroom graduated from Northern Heights High School and works for Fanestil Meats.
She is the daughter of Adrian and Patricia Fitzmaurice of Olathe. She is the granddaughter of Albert and Dollie Magner of Topeka and Dolores Fitzmaurice of Norton.
He is the son of Teresa Torrence and David Lee Carter, both of Emporia. He is the grandson of Edward Hartman of Emporia.
Engagement: Stueve and Ritchie
Carl Lee and Marilyn Stueve of Olpe and Scott and Lisa Ritchie of Wichita announce the engagement of their children, Lana Stueve and Andy Ritchie.
Stueve graduated from Olpe High School and Fort Hays State University with a bachelor’s degree in health and human performance. She teaches health and physical education at Emporia High School.
Ritchie graduated from Wichita Collegiate High School and Montana State University with a bachelor’s degree in animal science. He works at Highland Ranch and Flint Rock Cattle Company.
The couple plan to marry Sept. 29, 2007, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olpe.
Engagement: Schneider and Thompson
Amanda Schneider and Keith Thompson of Wichita announce their engagement.
Schneider is the daughter of Leon and Pam Schneider of Caldwell. She is the granddaughter of Don and Cecilia Nelson of Arkansas City and the late Marvin and Bernette Schneider of Caldwell.
Thompson is the son of former Americus residents Robert and Cheryl Thompson of Tyro. He is the grandson of Randall and Betty Etter of Caney and Margaret and the late George Thompson of Coffeyville.
The couple plan to marry in the fall of 2008.
Engagement: Hutchison and Wilson
Jennifer Nichole Hutchison and Lee Thomas Wilson of Topeka announce their engagement.
Hutchison attended Topeka High School and works at Village Cleaners in Topeka.
Wilson attended Emporia High School and works at Wal-Mart in Topeka.
She is the daughter of Bill and Debbie Hutchison of Topeka.
He is the son of Tom and Linda Wilson of Emporia.
The couple plan to marry Aug. 25, 2007, at Bethel Baptist Church in Emporia.
Wedding: Spexarth
Stephanie Miller and Robby Spexarth were married June 16, 2007, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia. The Rev. Jerome Spexarth, brother of the bridegroom, officiated at the afternoon ceremony.
The maid of honor was Chelsey Miller, sister of the bride. The best man was Gerard Spexarth, brother of the bridegroom. The bride’s other attendants were Kelly Wieters, Katie Euler, Kara Euler and Heidi Yost. The groomsmen were Gary Spexarth, Dylan Schmidt, Shawn Lies and Clint Linnebur.
The flower girls were Ashton Winter and Olivia Spexarth; the ring bearer was Rob Winter. Brooke Demo was the candlelighter. Ushers were Joshua Miller, Nick Eck, Cody Ungles and Chris Wapelhorst. Wedding musicians were the Starr Family. Roger Scheve and Mary Beth Winter were the readers. Guestbook attendants were Janae Scheve, Laura Schauf and Karla Hommertzheim.
The rosary carried by the bride’s great-grandmother at her wedding in 1920 was woven into the bridal bouquet. Pete and Leslee Euler and Roger and Jeri Scheve were the host couples.
The wedding reception was at Sacred Heart Parish Hall.
The couple took a honeymoon trip to the Riviera Maya in Mexico and live in Wichita.
The bride attends Wichita State University, where she is studying for a degree in education.
The bridegroom graduated from Wichita State University with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. He works at Hawker-Beechcraft.
She is the daughter of David and Peggy Miller of Emporia. She is the granddaughter of Kurt and Vi Miller, Jim and Bess Facklam and Jerry and Jeannie Teichgraeber.
He is the son of Fred and Barbara Spexarth of Colwich.
Engagement: Marsh and Schremmer
James and Marsha Marsh of Americus and Doug and Kayla Schremmer of Hoisington announce the engagement of their children, Keri Michele Marsh and Brandon Douglas Schremmer.
Marsh will graduate in May 2009 from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in business management. She works for Douglas Chiropractic Center and the Buckle.
Schremmer will graduate in May 2008 from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in communications. He works for Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
The couple plan to marry Dec. 17, 2007, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, accompanied by family and friends. The wedding reception will be held in Emporia in January.

Former Emporians Jon and Jeanie VerBrugge of Olathe announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer VerBrugge, to Greg Watkins, son of William and Susan Strom of Virginia Beach, Va.
VerBrugge graduated from Olathe South High School and Ottawa University with a bachelor’s degree in business. She works at SkillPath Seminars.
Belton graduated from Belton High School and attended Missouri Southern State College. He is an automotive paint technician.
