Anniversary: McCullough
Former Emporia residents William “Bill” and Lois Hudson McCullough of Gentry, Ark., celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary Sept. 30, 2006.
They lived in Emporia until their marriage on Sept. 30, 1942, at Cottonwood Falls.
After touring the country from coast to coast while Bill McCullough was in the Navy and raising three sons and one daughter, they settled in Gentry, Ark., in 1966, They also lived in Ogden, Utah, Rhode Island and Wichita. They said, “Moving to God’s country, Gentry, was the best move we ever made.”
Their daughter, Cheryl Kane, lives in Wichita. Their three sons and family, Mike and Joann McCullough, live in Kimberling, Mo.; Rick and Pat McCullough, live in Indianapolis, Ind.; and Rod McCullough and his daughter, Madison, live in Baxter Springs. The McCullough’s have four granddaughters, two grandsons, nine great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The families all got together over the Labor Day weekend for a reunion and celebration of the anniversary. Others who came were their grandson, Tim McCullough and his two daughters of Monroe, La.; their granddaughter, Tracy Weiser and her two sons, Joey and Erick, of Siloam Springs, Ark.; and honored guest and niece, Jane Miranda, who recently moved to Emporia from Virginia.
Plans are to attend Bill McCullough’s ship reunion in Branson, Mo. He served on the USS Catamount LSD (Landing Ship Dock) 17. He was one of the first sailors on the ship when it was commissioned in 1945, thereby becoming a “Plank Owner.”
Anniversary: Fowler
Richard E. “Gene” and Rosalie Fowler will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Best Western Flint Hills Room, 3021 W. Highway 50.
Rosalie Chapman and Richard Eugene Fowler were married Oct. 21, 1956, at the First Methodist Church in Emporia. The Rev. Clyde S. Clark officiated at the ceremony.
Gene Fowler worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in Emporia and Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Topeka and Mission. Rosalie Fowler worked for the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Emporia and Topeka. When they retired in 1992, the Fowler’s returned to Emporia.
Their children are Doug and Michelle Fowler of Emporia and Jeff and Janice Culbertson of Roeland Park. Their grandchildren are Jessica Puff of Topeka; Misty Fleming of Emporia; Jennifer Henning of Missouri; Brandon Fowler, who is with the U.S. Navy; Jason Culbertson of Paola; and Kyle, Kayla and Nicole Culbertson of Roeland Park. They have 12 great-grandchildren.
Anniversary: Brunner
Ralph H. and Evelyn R. Brunner will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the West Side Baptist Church. Hosts will be their children, Pamela, Rick, Anita and Shane Brunner.
Evelyn R. Janzen and Ralph H. Brunner were married Oct. 17, 1946, at Sacramento, Calif.
He is a retired Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad engineer. She is a homemaker and also was an assistant postmaster at Goessel and North Newton and a clerk at Woolworth’s and J.C. Penney’s.
They request no gifts.
Anniversary: Fuller
Mary and Jim Fuller celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 14 with a dinner at the Best Western Hotel given by their children and grandchild for friends and family. The Fullers will go on a trip by train to the northwest.
