Joseph B. and Carol Ann Higgins of Osage City will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Friday.
Joseph B. and Carol Ann Higgins of Osage City will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Friday. Their children will have a Mass celebrated for them Sunday at St. Patrick Church in Osage City, where the Higginses are members. Monsignor Mike Mullens and the Rev. Rick Storey will be the celebrants. After the Mass, the children will be hosts for a dinner and reception at St. Brigid Hall.
Their children are Dennis and Bunny Higgins of La Cygne; Marcia Higgins of Lebo; Greg and Bridget Martinez of Tecumseh; Steve and Michelle Giesy of Osage City; and Randy and Vicki Jesseph of Eureka. The Higginses have 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
They were married in 1956 at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Kansas City, Kan. Monsignor Spurlock officiated at the ceremony.
Anniversary: Schaefer
Brian and Gena Schaefer of rural Emporia will observe their 25th wedding anniversary Tuesday.
Brian and Gena Schaefer of rural Emporia will observe their 25th wedding anniversary Tuesday. Their son, Lee Schaefer, and daughter, Ashley Schaefer, both of Emporia, will be hosts for the family reception to be held at a later date.
Gena Lazzers and Brian Schaefer were married Oct. 3, 1981, at the First Christian Church.
The couple both work at Schaefer Equipment Co. and also have a farm and ranch operation.
Engagement: Harshman
Tiffany Rae Anne Miller and Samuel Knox Harshman of Cedar Point announce their engagement.
Miller works at Internal Medical Associates in Emporia.
Harshman works for his family business, Harshman Construction.
She is the daughter of Craig and Rhonda Reyer of Cottonwood Falls.
He is the son of Warren and Susie Harshman of Cedar Point.
The couple plan to marry Nov. 3, 2006, at the Flinthills Community Church in Cottonwood Falls.
Wedding: Hadley and Birk
Shannon Birk and Brian Hadley were married Aug. 4 2006, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Burlington. The Rev. Michael Hawken officiated at the evening ceremony.
The maid of honor was Shelby Birk, sister of the bride. The best man was Nate Schumacher. The bride’s other attendants were Jill Guajardo, sister of the bridegroom, Casey Jones, Erinn Morray and Erika Curtis. The groomsmen were Brent Birk, brother of the bride, Carlos Guajardo, Ryan Linton and Shawn Schweitzer. Sydnee Hadley, daughter of the bridegroom, and Libby McMurphey were the flower girls; Bryce Isch was the ringbearer.
Candlelighters were Hannah Morray and Dane Birk. Ushers were J.D. Chanley, Seth Thibault and Joe Isch. JeriLee Trostle and Rori Salava were the wedding musicians. Carrie Rettinghaus was the reader. Guestbook attendants were Kelsey Orr and Candi Birk.
The wedding reception was at the church Parish Hall. Cake servers were Laurie Pitman, Alexa Brown and Rita Young. The rehearsal dinner was at the church.
The couple took a honeymoon trip to Cancun, Mexico, and live in Emporia.
The bride graduated from Gridley High School and the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy. She is a pharmacist at Newman Regional Health.
The bridegroom graduated from Osborne High School and Emporia State University. He is a teacher at Americus Middle School.
She is the daughter of Jeff and Gwen Birk of Gridley.
He is the son of Craig and Darlene Hadley of Osborne.
Grandparents are Wallace and Nadine Birk of Gridley, Walter and Leota Hadley of Portis and Raymond Mayers of Osborne.
Wedding: House and Anderson
Megan Marie Anderson and Cory Joe House were married Aug. 5, 2006, at Jacob’s Well Church in Kansas City, Mo. Steve Dighton officiated at the afternoon ceremony.
The maid of honor was Kaylee Anderson. The best man was Nate Edwards. The bride’s other attendants were Megan Anz, Cara Bozarth and Amy Lederer. The groomsmen were Doug Hague, Brandon Kuehn and Jeff Wilson. Ushers were Jacob Dogotch and Jim Stockwell. The wedding musicians were Ty Stockwell, Tabitha King, Josh and Jamie Reasons and Nancy Griffin. Leslie House, sister of the bridegroom, was the reader. The guestbook attendant was Kaci Adams.
The wedding reception was in the Sunset Ballroom of the Holiday Inn at Overland Park. Megan Hague was the gift attendant; Karri Bakalor, the program attendant. The rehearsal dinner was at the Green Mill Restaurant.
The couple took a wedding trip to Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, and live in Overland Park.
The bride graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor’s degree in dietetics and from the University of Kansas with a master’s degree in nutrition. She is a clinical dietitian at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.
The bridegroom graduated from Emporia State University with a bachelor’s degree in business and attends the University of Kansas where he is studying for a master’s degree in business administration. He is a testing engineer for Sprint Nextel in Overland Park.
She is the daughter of Ron and Sherri Anderson of Overland Park.
He is the son of Dave and Susan House of Emporia.
Grandparents are Mary Smiley of Emporia, Maxine Anderson of Overland Park and Hazel Peak of Pittsburg.
Engagement: Thornley and Schindler
Robert and Lana Schindler of Madison announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer Leigh Schindler, to Jason Randall Thornley, son of Pam Thornley and the late Randall Thornley of Springfield, Ill.
Schindler graduated from Madison High School and the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in human biology.
Thornley graduated from Pleasant Plains High School and Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree in biology.
Both received doctor of chiropractic degees from Palmer College of Chiropractic. They are practicing in the Kansas City area.
The couple plan to marry Oct. 21, 2006, at the First Presbyterian Church in North Kansas City, Mo.
