Kaufman is a senior at Kansas State University where she will graduate in December 2007 with a bachelor's degree in kinesiology with a health and fitness endorsement. She plans to attend physical therapy school.
Mahan is a senior at Kansas State University where he will graduate in December with a bachelor's degree in construction science and management. He is a project engineer at Fort Riley.
The couple plan to marry Jan. 6, 2007, at St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria.
Wedding: Hekele and Smith

The maid of honor was Kristi Smith, sister of the bride. The best man was Beau Hekele, brother of the bridegroom. The other attendants were Nikki Simmons, Jaimie Fehr, Lorie Wagner, Megan Anderson and Jana Williams. The groomsmen were Chad Beck, Chris Beck, Kyle Beck, Travis Schmidt and Terry Miller. The candlelighter was Kaitlyn Millis. The flower girl was Mara Smith; Parker Simmons was the ring bearer. Ushers were Chad Smith, brother of the bride, Andrew Jacobs, Mike Chrisler and Paul Schreiber. The wedding musicians were Fred Gilligan and Danielle Smith. Jenna Hekele, sister of the bridegroom, and Kari Beck were the guestbook attendants. Hosts for the wedding were Carl and Rita Headrick.
The wedding reception was at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Olpe. The couple live in Odin.
The bride is the daughter of Stanley and Cheryl Smith of Emporia.
She is the granddaughter of Gene Obee and the late Marie Obee of Burns and Vern and Rosalie Smith of Peabody.
The bridegroom is the son of Joe and Tina Hekele of Odin. He is the grandson of Joseph Hekele and the late Martha Hekele of Odin and Dale and Jean Chrisler of Oakley.
