Hundreds of children and adults took part at the Boo in the Zoo Thursday afternoon.

Emporia Zoo personnel, the Emporia Fire Department, the Emporia Police Department, several businesses and many volunteers made the time fun. They passed out candy and played games with the children. Having the activity in the late afternoon made it a warmer time, and it was also less spooky for little ones to party in the daylight.

A short time later, Rural Street was the place to be. Homes were decked out with spooky inflatables, cobwebs, ghosts and skeletons. Students from Emporia State University also collected items to donate for the Emporia Animal Shelter.
