A woman who has not yet been identified was taken to the hospital Tuesday after she was found sleeping in a garage north of Emporia.

At 11:37 a.m. Tuesday, deputies from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a burglary in the 2200 block of Kansas Highway 99 — about five miles north of Emporia.

“Deputies searched the residence and found a white female asleep in the garage,” read a written statement from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman was believed to be involved in an accident that occurred at around 3 a.m. near mile-marker 132.6 on the Kansas Turnpike. The residence where she was found was located directly east of the crash scene.

Lyon County EMS were called to the scene and she was transported to Newman Regional Health with non-life threatening injuries.

The burglary remains under investigation.
