Three drivers were transported to Newman Regional Health with non-life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning near mile marker 132 on Interstate 35.

According to a press release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, upon arriving near 10:30 a.m., first responders observed that a 2005 Chevy Colorado driven by Ray Emley of Emporia was southbound in the northbound lane of I-35. The Colorado had collided with a 2008 GMC Yukon driven by Jon Aluise of Andover.

It was later determined that Aluise transferred into the inside lane to pass another vehicle and saw Emley’s pickup traveling in the same lane. Aluise then swerved to the left shoulder at the same time Emely swerved to the median. Emley’s vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the Yukon, causing it to roll over onto its roof in the median. The Colorado came to rest on its wheels in the median as well.

Three out of the five occupants were transported by ambulance while Emley was taken by private vehicle to the hospital. All occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of accident.
